Added volume control and virtual D-PAD, fixed localization errors, improved hints.
Dungeons of Dreadrock 2 is a triumph of level design. The first game was already great, but this sequel feels more confident and expansive. The 16-bit art style is gorgeous and nostalgic, but the actual puzzles are modern and ingenious. It’s essentially a 'puzzle-crawler'—it looks like a dungeon-delving RPG, but every encounter is a logic puzzle that requires you to observe and react to specific patterns.
What makes it special is how it tells a story through the environment. You feel like you’re actually descending into a deep, ancient place. The difficulty is perfectly tuned; you'll get stuck, but the answer is always right there in front of you if you just slow down and look. It’s one of those rare games that makes you feel genuinely smart when you solve a floor. It is easily one of the best puzzle games on mobile right now.
100 handcrafted levels
Retro 16-bit art style
Atmospheric storytelling
Tactical grid-based combat
Success in Dreadrock depends on observing enemy patterns. Every step you take triggers a response from the environment or monsters. Use the 'wait' mechanic to let enemies move into positions where they are vulnerable or to avoid being crushed by timed traps.
The gameplay focuses on 100 unique levels that strip away filler, focusing entirely on pure puzzle-solving and combat encounters that feel like a tabletop game come to life.
While it helps to know the story, the mechanics and puzzles are self-contained.
I highly enjoyed this puzzle game and its predecessor. The concept of a sequel actually playing out in parallel with the original seems quite novel! The setting, story, music, voiceovers, puzzles, and graphics were excellent... all building well on top of the original. It's more of what I loved in the first game and that's exactly what I was hoping for. I did notice a few spelling mistakes in the (English) dialog and I also can't for the life of me figure out how to get the book (Necronomicon?) after dream fifteen. Is it simply an Easter egg?
The images and videos in the description suggest that you will have more interesting weapons in the sequel than in the original game. But after the 5th or so level the power staff becomes a simple stick with no ranged attack. Lame. Also the controls are still irritating in this version where the swipe-and-hold control option creates all kinds of unintended moves or actions. Feeling very annoyed that the sequel’s description strongly suggests new and interesting weapons and mechanics but it’s just the same old stuff as the original game. I guess you will be happy with the sequel if you don’t want or care that there isn’t really anything new.
I played dungeons of dreadrock 1 a few years ago and loved the simple yet deceptively complex puzzles, along with the gorgeous artwork. To my surprise, I ran across the sequel a few days ago and absolutely devoured it within a few days. This is a joyously well-designed retro puzzler with 101 levels that are difficult, yet not impossible to work through. Just a perfect balance when it comes to challenge. I’ve heard a threequel is on the way. I can’t wait for it to be completed!
I usually wouldn’t spend 8 dollars on an iPhone game BUT I loved the first one so much that I decided to fork over the money to support the dev and I’m glad I did!! It’s really amazing to be able to find wonderfully crafted games like this in an App Store oversaturated with low effort garbage from giant corps who steal people’s ideas. I hope you continue to make more games and I will continue to support you!
Great puzzles, fun game, nice story and environment. My only complaint is the controls sometimes seem inconsistent. It’s frustrating once you mentally solve a puzzle but have to repeat it because a left or right swipe doesn’t register and the level resets. That said, still a very high quality fun game.
Definitely a must play for anyone that likes puzzle or adventure games. I was left wanting more after beating the first game and this one definitely delivers. The devs seem to put a lot of heart and effort into making these game fresh, engaging and challenging. Definitely give this game a try!
I spent a few minutes trying to find an option for sound/music and couldn’t find any. I was going to just take this as a loss, but left a review with concerns. Within a week, the developer had replied and implemented QOL changes to the game. I look forward to completing this adventure and future projects!
Part puzzle game, part action RPG. Dungeons of Dreadrock and its predecesor are very fun games that will take a few hours to beat. Puzzles are mostly moving on tiles in the right order with increasingly complicated mechanics. Definitely worth a try!
