Our Expert Score

85/100

Volleyball Arena: Spike Hard is a fast-paced, 1v1 sports game that distills the complexity of volleyball into an addictive, accessible mobile experience. Developed by Miniclip, it captures that 'just one more match' feeling perfectly. The controls are incredibly intuitive—using just left, right, jump, and hit buttons—allowing players to focus on timing and positioning rather than complex inputs. The physics feel surprisingly snappy for a mobile title, making every dive and spike feel impactful.

What sets this apart from a standard sports sim is the inclusion of unique power-ups and character abilities. While some purists might find the 'fireball' or 'freeze' mechanics frustrating when they're on the receiving end, they add a layer of arcade-style strategy that keeps the competitive meta fresh. The progression system, involving unlocking different arenas and upgrading player stats via card packs, provides a solid long-term hook. It’s easily one of the most polished sports games on the App Store right now, ideal for quick sessions or longer competitive climbs.

Q&A

Try to counter special moves with timing; for example, hitting a fire ball with your head can sometimes reflect it back to the opponent's side.

This is a fun game and I have spent no money. I think it’s pretty well known that you play bots, but the problem is I go on streaks of 10+ without losing and have very subpar equipment while using no power ups. The bots can be strong, but the trick is to either camp the front line and spike the serve back before they can respond when they’re serving which works most of the time, or at the very least wastes their stamina. The bots are bad at defending spikes and they’re bad at managing energy. As long as you can take note of the bot’s power ups, you can play accordingly and just make sure you put the ball deep and high on fireballs which are the main concern. Reversed controls take a little getting used to as well but aren’t much of a problem. High Net usually ends up hurting the bot more. Sticky Feet is usually not a big factor considering your dive can help you cover half the court. And the only other ones I can think of are double points and freeze ball which don’t effect the game if everything else is played correctly, it only limits your margin of error but doesn’t make it harder. The point is that the AI is very weak and even the strongest bots with the best equipment fail to manage energy. I wish either true multiplayer was allowed or the bots were at least updated. I’m sitting on 1.8M coins with not much to spend them on and am getting bored of consistently winning with a power level 51.4 against bots with power 70+ where I’m using absolutely no power ups.

Extremely fun but…

I found this game to be amazing. It’s really fun and you can get addicted. But the only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because of a few reasons. The first are the packs. I don’t understand why packs take so long to open. They can take 3-8 hours - which is unbelievably long. The second is reason is the matchmaking. Sometimes I get out with opponents that are way stronger than I am. Sometimes over 10 levels. I think matchmaking should be kept anywhere minus or plus 5 levels so that matches can be more fairer. Third, the power ups. I love the idea of the power ups but in reality I actually hate them. And that’s because they take the skill a player possesses away. For instance, while I practise so much to get better, somebody can always just use a power with little effort instead. I wouldn’t say to remove the power ups, but I’d say to add new game modes instead (for example a realistic game mode based solely on skill rather than power ups). And lastly, I was level 8 playing as a guest and I decided to add my account but when I did, I lost all my progress. Now I can’t go back and get my Guest account back. And the only way to not be labelled as a “Guest” is if you log in through your Apple account or Facebook account. No offense but I find this completely dumb. I think Miniclip should just allow a feature where people just create their own account via the game itself instead of via Apple and Facebook. And I’m not the only because there are just so many Guest users. I want this game to be better for everyone so that it can become even more popular. I hope this review helped, thank you.

Pretty fun

This game is probably my favorite game I have on my phone. Its pretty addicting to me, but I do have a few problems with it that make me very angry and confused. First one of my biggets problems, when the timer is about to go up, I notice it stays at 0 for a good 5 or more seconds. This annoys and confuses me especially when my opponent is 1 point away from me, and we end up having a tie. It’s almost like the game is taking sides. 😒 Another one of my problems is something most people have said in their reviews. Take. The. Powers. Away. Please! I feel like EVERY TIME I play this game, I always end up losing. Even if I’m better than my opponent and have more power, they still end up winning only because they’re using powers. I feel like it’s cheating and not truly winning. I think this game would make me rage quit less without the powers. I just get so mad because the only way my opponent is winning is because they're using powers. I try not to use my power ups that much because, first of all, I don’t have an unlimited amount, and second of all it’s not that fun when all you're doing is cheating. Even though this game makes me extremely mad sometimes and I have problems with it, I still love playing it and I think you should give it a try if you like volleyball and you're competitive. 😂

Reward Loop is Garbage, Power-Ups feel Cheap
Mon Sep 26 2022 Boni-f

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this game would benefit from an independent energy system. With the rounds being so short, you can fill up your slots for packs in 10 minutes and then have no incentive to play more except for coins. The problem is, coins are essentially your energy. If you ever drop below 100 coins you can’t ply the game at all until a) you get the daily reward (once a day, not always coins) b) you get the free reward for watching an ad (again, once a day) or c) you open a pack (3-12 HOURS each). Because of this there’s no incentive to spend your coins in the shop, because you need them to play the game. Packs take way too long to open and you get them from the first stadium you win in with an open pack slot, which can force you take a pack you don’t actually want. Additionally, the good equipment and characters requires so many cards to unlock that you can really only expect upgrades on the timescale of days. Matchmaking always matches me with people who have better equipment/characters than I do and, while my win-rate is fine against them, it feels like I enter every match at a disadvantage (likely because I do). The power up system feels cheap, most of them are just ways to guarantee yourself a point if played right, unfortunately it detracts from the fun gameplay of the vanilla match. I’m tired of being strung along with the promises of a reward every 8 hours

Fun But Way Too Many Problems

The overall idea of the game is enjoyable and it can get very addicting at times for good and bad reasons. The visuals are nice and I like how you can change your character and have power ups. NOW here's the issues and brace yourself, there's a lot. The power packs take forever to load and when you eventually get them, the prizes aren't that great and there's almost always a duplicate item. You have to spend 100 gems just to get five power ups or open a power pack earlier. Speaking of power ups, during the matches my power ups would automatically be used without me touching it at all and that's a complete wast of gems and it also forces you to buy more. When there's a long rally, the ball just starts moving in slow motion and it's really hard to move the ball and this gives the BOT an advantage. Yes you never actually play real people it's all bots and some levels they're 100 better than you and it's impossible to win or they're extremely bad. Weird huh. Another problem is sometimes you'll have a "connection error" and loose all the coins you spent for that level. It's really hard to have any advantages without spending REAL MONEY. Like it's just a game why can't it be fun without it being based off of emptying our pockets??? So many issues that need to be fixed and this game would be decent.

Fun games many problems

First off this game is great, the layout of the game and controls but there’s lots of things that could improve the game by A LOT such as taking away powers, it basically guarantees a point say it’s 4-5 they will just use a power and boom you lost, another thing is I have 1.3 Million coins and have nothing to do with them, I can’t spend them except on matches! I started playing 3 weeks ago have place #1 in the leagues but it’s making me wanna quit the game already, whenever i’m on a win streak it says Connection error or Reconnect. The game is pretty rigged, I went on a winning streak of 27 once and then the game set me up for failure, basically I tried the 5,400 match and had no errors out of 5 played but then the 56,000 and out of 5 had 3 errors that kicked me out weird huh? That’s there way of trying to control skill but in the end it’s not helping. I enjoyed the game until I got matched against people with 115.7 power which isn’t even possible! I’m to good for the game is that what it’s trying to say? The only way i’ve lost is from connection error, 115.7 power he got everything, and stupid powers being used. Not to mention you have to pay REAL MONEY just to have a really good character very fun game but also doesn’t make sense.

Terrible

I have been playing this game for awhile and it’s can be very fun, or very frustrating. Today when I was playing I had 70,000 coins (money in the game) and I decided to do the 56,000 dollar one because I was like yk what, I am just gonna do it. But I should have thought more before I did that. The previous 5 times (exact) that I played, the bots were impossible to beat, I mean literally. The last 5 times I was just doing the 100 dollar arena bc this kept happening and I didn’t care if I lost 100 dollars, wtv. But when I go against the BOT on the last level arena, the bot is literally hard to beat but I was doing good, I had finally got ahead and figured out a strategy (power ups, the only way to win sometimes) and knew I could win. but when it’s 1 minute left, I get kicked off the game completely. This made me lose over half of my money and I didn’t even get to win against the bot, and the arena, and still when I played the London court arena, the bots were still impossible to beat. This needs to be fixed, bugs need to be fixed, and so much more. this happened to all my friends that play with me btw. This needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY! Please look at these reviews, everyone of them state something yall need to fix. Please look at them! Your doing you self no favors by not looking at them with SUGGESTIONS. The owners really need these rn. Moral of the story- NO BOTS! They are LITERALLY impossible to beat! This game is probably losing a bunch of players, so I would fix this if I were yall. Js saying 🤷‍♀️

Laziest game ever.

On the surface it might look like an enjoyable game, but once you start playing it and going into the further leagues, you realize all you’ve been playing against were bots. They are repetitive, annoying, and have infinite power ups with essentially 0 cooldown. You will never get put with a real person ever. EVER. Plus, it’s all microtransactions too since if you actually want to have a gear level close to your opponent (ai) you have to spend money. Coins are useless too. They get you nothing. It’s just gems which of course, cost money. WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT TO SPEND MONEY IN A GAME TO BE BETTER AGAINST FIGHTING REPETETIVE BOTS? Like the game mechanics are good, but the creators executed it HORRIBLY. This had potential to be an amazing game if you could actually fight real players and it wouldnt just be pay to win, but nah, the creators don’t want money. I PRAY that the creators of this game and their family contract a fatal disease/cancer or get hit by a car/environmental fatal damage so that the trajectory of their lives change. And by pray I mean I literally prayed to God himself so that the creators and their family or pets suffer the worst fate imaginable and that their lives get ruined. Let’s pray right now: dear lord, please have the creators of this game and anybody closely associated with them to be fatally injured or contract a fatal disease or cancer or have their beloved pets and friends die horrible fates so that their lives get ruined. Thank you so much god and amen.
