Bug fixing, AI improvements and new features
Spades Stars is a great card game for anyone who enjoys the classic game of Spades. The app has a simple, easy-to-use design, perfect for both beginners and experienced players. The matches are quick, and playing online against real people makes every game feel unique. I like that you can earn coins and rewards by completing challenges, although sometimes if you lose a few games in a row, you run out of coins pretty fast. Overall, it’s a fun, competitive game — perfect for passing the time.
The worst feature of this game is that after you have played long enough to build up lots of trophies, the game locks up and will not proceed. This time, the game starts and you get to proceed a step or two, then the game shuts off. You restart, it goes a step or two, and the game shuts off. Rebooting repeatedly is no help. Offloading the app and reinstalling, twice, does not help. All you can do is totally delete the app and ALL your data. Then if you reinstall, you have to start all over again. Highly unpleasant annoyance. The second worst is that you’re not given enough time to formulate your bid. (This might only be if you have certain options set. There is a workaround: you can restart the round with the same cards by watching a video.) The best features of this game are that the graphics are fine, the scores are accurate, and the game play is good. However, the skill of the computer players is pitiful. Your partner will often make you take a trick when you have bid nil. Also, your partner will take sandbags unnecessarily after both teams have already made the bid. However, the opponents are programmed to often make stupid mistakes also, so you usually do win. If you can find a better spades app, stick with it. Otherwise, this one is OK.
I used to really enjoy playing this game and accepted that I would need to see ads in between GAMES! However, the greed to put ads IN the game has made this game unfit for me to play more than one game. I play maybe one game a day, only to get the points in my other game which pays me to play. I very much would like to see someone in charge-you know the guy or gal getting paid an obscene salary, and explain that by interrupting the actual game with ads you are probably losing more players than are downloading the advertised games, etc. I’ll keep checking back, but you must know there are other great Spades games out there and when I find the one which values its players and wants to keep them, then I won’t even come back to check this game. A good swift boot to the backside of whoever thought interrupting the game with ads, was a good idea 🥾👢
This app is great for fast gameplay but I seriously doubt the validity of the humanness of the players. After playing this game for quite some time, I’ve noticed several patterns of dumb behavior that an experienced player would not do. In addition, the gameplay is much too fast to be real players. If you’ve ever been on any of the other apps, you’ll notice that players stall and disappear. It never happens with this game, that’s great for fast play, but it lends itself to doubt of real players. Also, if somebody busts your nil, or you miss your bid, you can pay to change it or you can watch a video. Why is it that when I bust somebody else’s nil, there’s never the 30 second pause before the game continues while they watch their video? Oh yeah, it’s because they are AI.
I love the flow of the app. Dealing, card flows and ability to pick what style of Trump cards… whether it’s the standard Ace of spade is highest or high/low jokers then 2 diamond 2 spades Ace etc. But I can’t wrap my head around the scoring and how it it determined. I bid 2 and make the bid but get -80? Opponent doesn’t make bid, but get 80, 90, 100+ points. Even with making a blind bid, the scoring doesn’t make sense. I make my blind bid and still get a negative score???! So although I like the flow of the app, I can’t deal with not understanding the bid system as I know it. I have to put it down. There’s also no explanation in detail of how the scoring is decided.
This app is broken. The opponent AI will renig and then play the exact suit it cut the hand before. Also the opponent AI knows when it’s partner is cutting a suit before they cut and will display laughing emojis the following hand like to let you know it’s cheating and there isn’t anything you can do about it. The AI partner will cut you out of books and play of suit when they could’ve won the book. Also, the NIL is used against the player because the AI partner uses it at nauseum and despite getting your bid, the NIL isn’t covered and it puts you behind in points. And when did the deuce of diamonds become outrump a deuce of spades? Been playing spades since I was seven years old and have never seen or heard that.
Don’t get me wrong there are ads but they are few and in between and when you do get an add and barely last for 5 to 10 seconds if that. I can handle five seconds it’s these ones that are a minute long or 30 seconds and then after the 30 seconds of that it switches screens and you got another five seconds. I like it. but these guys arm pretty good about keeping ads short and basically nonexistent. I like it I’m keeping the app
The only thing I don’t like about this game is that the computer players always hold the jokers until the end of the hand. The jokers only make 1 book, so why not play them when needed instead throwing off with another suit and losing the book. And it’s really annoying when you’re trying to run spades and your computer partner won’t let go of that joker until it’s the last option. Other than that, i think this app is superb. Giving only 4 stars because of the jokers.
