Meg's Monster is an absolute masterpiece of indie storytelling that catches you completely off-guard. At first glance, it feels like a cozy, humorous subversion of classic JRPG tropes: you play as an absurdly overpowered ogre named Roy who has 99,999 HP and takes virtually no damage. But the tactical genius—and emotional weight—kicks in when you realize your health bar doesn't matter at all. The real objective is keeping a lost little girl named Meg from crying, because if she does, her tears literally end the universe. This simple twist completely flips standard RPG strategy on its head; battles become a tense, creative balancing act of hitting enemies while aggressively using toys, executing mini-games, and doing whatever it takes to keep a toddler smiling.
What starts as a charming 'baby-sitting' dynamic quickly evolves into one of the most poignant, beautifully structured narratives available on mobile. Odencat's signature pixel art handles the tonal shifts flawlessly, capturing laugh-out-loud comedy in one scene and devastating emotional depth in the next. The character writing is phenomenal, transforming bizarre Underworld monsters into characters you will deeply care about. Supported by an incredible soundtrack and multiple endings that will easily push a grown gamer to tears, Meg's Monster sets a golden standard for how mechanics can perfectly mirror a narrative. It is short, tightly paced, and leaves a profound impact that will stay with you long after the final credits roll.
Unique battle system where protecting a fragile companion takes precedence over your own health.
A deeply emotional, narrative-driven experience filled with unpredictable plot twists and heart-wrenching scenarios.
Odencat's signature vibrant, retro-inspired pixel art design that turns terrifying monsters into lovable characters.
Optional sub-events that allow players to pursue deep backstories and actively befriend former enemies.
A beautifully composed, atmospheric soundtrack that perfectly accentuates both the humorous and melancholic moments of the journey.
To progress smoothly through the Underworld, players must realize that standard battle logic does not apply. Since Roy is effectively invincible, focus entirely on the turn timeline and upcoming enemy attacks targeting Meg. Use Roy's turns to execute unique defensive abilities or activate specific mini-games that utilize Meg's favorite toys. Keeping her pacified is your absolute priority, as allowing her fear meter to max out results in an instant game over.
As you traverse the distinct layers of the Underworld, do not rush through the core storyline. Take the time to track down and interact with previously defeated monsters. Engaging in these optional sub-events allows Roy and Meg to build deep character bonds, turning former foes into lifelong allies and uncovering essential world-building lore that completely recontextualizes the game's emotional narrative.
The core gameplay loop centers on turn-based tactical protection. Roy has 99,999 HP, meaning enemy attacks barely scratch him, but his partner Meg can only take a few shocks before crying. Combat tasks you with managing her emotional state by deploying items and executing specific environmental mini-games baked uniquely into every major encounter.
Exploration takes place across beautifully stylized pixel-art environments where players interact with a colorful cast of eccentric mutants. Progression is heavily tied to story milestones rather than traditional level-grinding, ensuring that the pacing remains tightly focused on narrative impact, emotional character growth, and puzzle-solving.
If Meg's fear meter fills completely, she begins to cry. Because her tears hold the apocalyptic power to tear the realm apart, her crying instantly triggers a world-ending event and results in an immediate game over.
i’ve played every odencat game except zelle so far and this is one of my FAVORITES. these games have always been amazing, from good music to fun gameplay, characters, and storylines. megs monsters plot twists are so interesting, as well as the storyline unraveling. i even cried 3 times while playing it lol! overall, your games are beautiful and amazing, even the older games. i love the throwbacks to previous games, like bears restaurant being mentioned in the comics. i’m so excited for wish upon a cat to come out!!! nowadays, good games that actually leave an impact on me are hard to find, but i will always be replaying odencat games 🫶
this game might’ve been my all-time favorite. With the absolutely amazing structural story, not including the style of the game is one of my favorites. But with the soundtrack and the characters, both endings were truly amazing. This game absolutely touched me, lol funny to admit, almost made a grown man cry, but this is absolutely amazing. 🚀🌷
The utmost respect for the creator. This game is mechanically simplistically prefect while being narratively poignant and fun. Love it. perfectly done. Cant wait for more from them. A well deserved 5 stars

The writing, the characters, the humor, the battles, the music, the scenes… my god. Haven’t felt something from a mobile game in ages. A scintillating star in a sea of slop. Or magic tar HAHA. So good, golly.
