Majotori is a delightful surprise that blends the high-stakes consequences of a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' story with a quirky trivia engine. You play as Lariat the Witch, who offers to solve the problems of various characters—but only if you can answer her trivia questions. The genius of the game lies in its branching paths; a wrong answer doesn't just end the game, it leads to a hilarious or tragic alternative reality for the characters involved.
The writing is sharp, witty, and deeply entrenched in geek culture, with questions spanning video games, anime, and movies. While some might find the heavy focus on 'nerd' trivia niche, the ability to adjust category frequency makes it accessible. It's short, punchy, and incredibly charming, making it a must-play for anyone who loves a good story with a side of brain-teasing.
50+ branching storylines
1,000+ geek-culture questions
25+ unique characters
Customizable trivia categories
Dual language support (English/Spanish)
If you are struggling with a specific topic like Anime, go to the settings menu. You can reduce the frequency of that category to ensure you get questions better suited to your expertise.
In each scenario, you help a character reach their goal. Lariat will ask a series of questions; the number of correct answers determines the 'level' of success for the character, ranging from perfect victory to total disaster.
If you lose, the character's wish goes wrong in various creative and often macabre ways, leading to one of the game's many alternative endings.
This is an amazing game, but I do have an issue with it; there are a lot of anime questions. I tried messing with the settings but it didn’t really help, because I still got quite a bit of anime questions. Maybe you could make in the settings an option to turn off anime questions? (Keep in mind I don’t know anything about coding or gaming). Overall, I loved this game and was curious after watching YouTuber CrankGameplays play it; so I decided to see if it was on the App Store. And I was pleasantly surprised to find it. 😊
I love the concept of this game and I am really enjoying it but for one thing: half the questions are about anime, a topic on which I know almost nothing. As somebody else commented, the game is clearly for nerds and geeks, and I will happily take that title. But focusing so much on one category makes the game almost unplayable for people who aren't experts in that field. If an update corrects this and adds a significant number of questions that have nothing to do with anime, so that the topics are much more balanced, I would gladly increase my rating.
Super engaging!!! Maybe google final fantasy before you play this or the dog is gonna rek themselves.
I changed the settings, turning down questions on animated cartoons, then ran a round and got 9 right and 1 wrong, because it still slipped in one Anime question of which I know nothing. Then it spins and of course lands on the one wrong answer. Then it shows me horrific story endings of death, which look cartoony, but nothing I could have on with my kids looking over my shoulder. I tried it a few more times and got almost the same result each round. This game is just wrong. Uninstalling.
I absolutely love this game! Lots of geeky questions! The only problem is if you lose around, some of the scenarios will make you cry...
Some of these scenarios are horrific....a baby dying in a fire...a woman committing suicide...all because you don't answer the questions right. It's disgusting. I'm uninstalling. It was pretty fun trivia wise but man...get rid of the messed up endings.
All of the questions are about video games. This trivia game is seriously lacking in categories and substance.
I recommend it 100%. Alva Majo is a great game developer.
