Our Expert Score

85/100

Backpacker is a brilliant fusion of trivia and light RPG mechanics that perfectly captures the spirit of budget travel. Instead of just answering dry questions, you are living the life of a traveler—managing your limited funds, catching flights, and working odd jobs to stay afloat. The genius of the game lies in its regional focus; the trivia isn't just general knowledge, it's specific to the city you're currently visiting. You’ll learn about the cuisine of Rome, the history of Tokyo, and the geography of Rio while you're virtually there.

The job mini-games add a necessary layer of interactivity that breaks up the quiz segments. Whether you're bartending or doing manual labor, these tasks feel like the 'hustle' of a real backpacker. The sense of progression from filling your passport and collecting unique souvenirs is genuinely addictive. It’s one of the few educational games that feels like a genuine adventure rather than a classroom exercise. For anyone with wanderlust, this is the perfect digital companion.

Fun

Love the game and it is addicting. I gave this low rating because first there is no instruction you have to muddle your way through the game. I just found out that there is a place to fill out your passport to register your email address. Did not know this until I tried to contact the company to ask a question. Received an error message that there was no record of email. I went to passbook but could not fine page to fill out to register email. Guess I am screwed since I cannot find how to fill out the passbook. I can not ask a question because email not registered. Addition to review since you cannot send a second review as I said before fun game, very addicting. My complaint is once you finished a city ready to move to next city the transportation to the next destination does not appear. Even though you have enough tickets or money. So your choices are hanging around answering repeated questions. Or go to the closest city and hang around answering question hope the city you want to go comes up. Wasting time and money. Once you have finished current city the transportation to new city should appear. I agree with the jobs not being able to perform the job and being denied all jobs. Plus the questions on sports I don’t care who hit the most home runs. Also the memory expert is terrible need to replace. I know someone who loves this game but because of a disability they cannot do the memory game.

Fix the bugs and it’ll be 5-Star rating

The rating would be 5-star if they fix the bugs. Very enlightening and entertaining. Traveling to different cities and fulfilling missions makes this the most entertaining trivia game ever. However, there have been several times when the shopkeeper has ripped me off, charging one price but then taking much more money than originally charged. Once the game took $20,000 from me when I bought an item for around $6,000. Another time, 45 tickets disappeared as I traveled from one country to another. Frustrating as it’s been, I’m sticking with it again. Not sure I will stick with it if another huge loss like $20,000 or 45 tickets happens again.

Fun world trivia, but jobs are too reliant on sports knowledge.

I really like this trivia game and have been playing for a while. I enjoy the different city questions that are specific to country or the city your in but my biggest complaint comes from the jobs and diplomas section. First off it's so frustrating to call and apply to 5 available jobs and get turned down to all of them which has happened to me more times than I can count especially since that's where you earn the most money. On top of that the games alogrithims turn you down 70% of the time if you're trying to do an 'Expert' level one but you can guarantee that it will let you into do the ‘Astronaut- Junior’ job every time! No ones wants to do the same job over and over again, especially the ‘game’ jobs. The astronaut junior one comes up 80% of my days and the game automatically loses its appeal. Second major disappointment in the jobs and diplomas is that it’s so heavy handed with sports trivia. Not everyone likes sports and when only 5 are available each day and 4/5 are sports related it's also no longer fun to spend energy on questions you can't answer correctly because you don't know names of every sports legend. I know this game allows you to submit other jobs and diplomas but I'm not necessarily good at coming up with trivia questions so it would be nice if the game would provide something more than baseball, football, tennis, sportscasters, and soccer jobs the majority of game.

Great game but glitchy
Wed Dec 24 2025 DebHerald

I really love this game, and enjoy the regular updates but the game is glitchy as hell. For instance some cities I have found at the end of every day I have to restart the game but I lose nothing, it just takes longer to reset each day. Other issues are that I'll buy at the shops and I get annertor stating that there is an error and it's not in my inventory. But it shows that I have completed a task I am buying an item for. It is glitchy and sometimes gets on my nerves but overall it's a great game that while I wish they would fix the issues, they aren't enough to make me not want to play. I wish what is needed for other cities was identified someway so that I don't waste money traveling back and forth. Also in a few cities you have to earn so many coins to complete a level it seems impossible I wish different goals were establishes. It is educational and I have learned a lot culturally through this game and this is the biggest draw to the game for me.

Good game but some issues
Wed Sep 26 2018 radiojedi

The game is a lot of fun overall. There are some issues that are really annoying, however. The biggest problem is that I have with the game I have to do with the job diplomas. Too often, I keep getting options for jobs I’ve already completed and have one the diploma for. Additionally, on a very frequent basis, I call and get rejected. This is quite annoying and frustrating. Furthermore, there is way too much emphasis on sports trivia in the game. Some of the non-trivia jobs are ridiculously hard making it almost impossible to get a diploma. There is an option to submit questions that could be potential used as trivia for jobs. I have done a number of these but I’ve never received any credit under the area we’re supposed to get coins for being an apprentice etc. also, I’ve never seen any of the jobs I’ve created come up as job options so I don’t even know if these ever get used in a game or not. I’d love to see additional cities and jobs added with updates.

Fun!

I am having a lot of fun with this game! My two biggest issues are 1, I keep getting stuck without enough tickets to complete the challenges I need to move on to the next city, so I end up just wasting time answering the same questions over and over until I can get more tickets. I’m obviously not going to spend any actual money on a game, but I guess that is just the nature of the beast with apps like this? And 2, some of the jobs are actually impossible. The memory expert job is insane. I am a fairly intelligent, competent person, and I can’t even get close to finishing that one. Also some of them need more explanation, like the soccer goal game took me a few times before I figured out actually how to shoot the ball and not just have it roll in at a painstakingly slow pace causing me to waste all of the time I had. Overall I’m still having fun, but I wish there was a way to get unstuck in some of these places.

No longer fun and doesn’t work as well

Can someone from support PLEASE PLEASE contact me. Your in app link is broke and I get NO HELP from the Facebook end. Do not message or anything else. You have my email. Contact me via email. Have been cheated twice on winning rewards. used to love this game. I didn’t mind having to do sone independent study for earning the monuments since you don’t get any information. Lately the backpack doesn’t work. I can’t upgrade it and have enough money to do so. The instructions given do not work. Also, the special events don’t show up on time. I lost three days on the valentine event because it didn’t appear. I can’t progress until my backpack is updated. What a waste. The developers do not seem helpful at all. When I contacted them they simply repeated steps I have already tried. I do not want to uninstall app and lose all my progress. Time to find something else. I tried to contact via Facebook to get help but discovered it is a private and elite group so I can add being snubbed as well.

February update

I love trivia games and learning new things. This game fulfills both. Interesting questions and topics. Only a few grammatical errors so far (unemployed copyeditor here) or questionable “job” categories. As for the new update, I really like the new opportunity to add to the “jobs” with categories and questions of our own. I was a little saddened at first when the first few Review Questions I got were either spam or troll or just someone checking out the new feature with nonsense. But then came some with definite potential, if they were actually formed as questions. Plus, atrocious grammar and punctuation. I did say unemployed copyeditor, didn’t I? I hope the creators do fix and correct any of these “job creations” before allowing them into the actual game. Maybe they have someone who’s job is solely copy editing? Keep up the good work otherwise.
