We heard your battle cries and have overhauled the infamous Knife level!
What type of commando brings a knife to a gunfight? Definitely not you! Now you are locked and loaded with your machine gun - ready to battle the jacked-up yayo dudes!
(We also made some UI improvements for all users, but iPad players will be especially pleased!)
Kick Ass Commandos is a thoughtfully designed mobile shooter that blends fast-paced arcade mechanics with squad-based strategy. Players move and manipulate their elite unit to influence the battlefield, solve high-stakes combat levels, and progress through curated jungle and desert stages. The experience favors destruction and polish, with dual-stick controls and satisfyingly chaotic feedback for every explosion.

Kick Ass Commandos is a high-octane love letter to the 'bullet-hell' arcade games of the 80s and 90s. It captures that frantic, 'one-man-army' energy of Contra but with a modern, top-down perspective that works beautifully on mobile. The gameplay is loud, explosive, and unapologetically difficult. You start as a single commando, but as you rescue brothers-in-arms, your squad grows into a massive, wall-destroying machine.
The humor is the secret sauce here—the dialogue is full of cheesy action-movie tropes that make every mission feel like an interactive B-movie. The pixel art is vibrant and detailed, with a great sense of 'weight' to the explosions and gunfire. While the difficulty spikes in the later levels can be punishing, the fast-paced nature of the levels makes it easy to hit 'retry' and try again. It’s a pure, unadulterated shot of adrenaline for fans of arcade shooters.

Tips & Walkthrough
Don't just run forward. Your AI commandos follow your exact path. Use 'Circle Strafing' around towers to allow your entire line of commandos to focus their fire on the target while staying mobile and avoiding incoming mortar rounds.
Gameplays
Interact with the prison cages. Rescuing a 'Heavy' specialist adds a rocket-launcher unit to your squad, while a 'Medic' provides passive health regeneration during combat.

Once full, tapping the Rage icon makes your entire squad invincible and doubles their fire rate for 5 seconds.

Sat Oct 07 2017 Master Gamer 6969It’s like the old school games Commando and Ikari Warriors combined with the new game Broforce. Great music and fantastic pixel art make it a treat for the eyes and ears. The explosions and meat chunks are awesome. Everybody loves meat chunks don’t they? It’s a twin stick shooter with all of the above and is really really fun. I’m done with this review because I want to go back to playing it. Stop reading and go buy it!
Great game - are knives broken?
Fri Nov 24 2017 two piExcellent game. I don't mind that it's difficult, but the knife levels are REALLY hard. Sometimes when I stab an alligator or bad guy, it works fine. Sometimes I just keep poking and nothing happens until I die. Even after leveling up, I may kill 3 or 4 alligators without losing any health at all, and then my knife seems to turn into rubber or something. As I look over steam version play through online, this seems to only be a problem on the iOS version. All other gameplay is super fun, but knife levels are extremely frustrating... Please check to see if this is a bug. Edit - I figured it out. Knives ARE broken half the time, but there is a workaround. At the beginning of a level, try to stab a tree. If it breaks, you have a good knife and it will work fine if you do not release the trigger. If the knife stops working, run away and find another tree or box to stab.

Sat Nov 11 2017 HotWater_9999This is a nearly perfect twin stick shooter with a lot of character and fun to be had, but the knife levels are so difficult that they take the fun out of the game. I've tried every strategy to make the knifes actually work and still don't know how I'm supposed to best use them to attack. Half the time they work great when going straight on and pushing forward with them, but other times they won't work at all like that. It seems like they work better when I'm in water, but who knows why.
Very satisfying game
Thu Jul 19 2018 powerful joeOne of my personal favorite games that I’ve found on the App Store—it’s funny, gory, hard (the knife levels are especially difficult because the knife seems to work inconsistently, but that became its own pleasurable challenge, in my case). The music is awesome too. Please make a sequel!
Good until knife level
Thu Sep 27 2018 DAS_22Like others have said, it is a pretty good game. Lots of fun. Until the knife level. Knife combat is very poor. Frustrating. Even outside of combat, stabbing environmental objects doesn’t work much of the time. In combat, you are dead. Bad enough for me to quit playing on the second mission after ‘Basic Training’. Maybe I’ll pick it up another time. For now, it is not worth the aggravation. It’s too bad. I was kind of excited about this game.

Sun May 13 2018 Clig76Classic 80’s gameplay merged with modern execution. Great controls and a layer of strategy (you cant just run and gun) will have you coming back for more. The music, ridiculously named characters and the over the top gore are just added bonuses.
