Halls of Torment is a horde survival roguelike with a pre-rendered retro look reminiscent of RPG classics from the late 90s. Choose from a variety of hero characters and descend into the deadly Halls. Fight off unholy terrors and survive wave after wave until you face one of the tormented lords. Strengthen your hero with character traits, abilities, and items. During your runs, you can find powerful equipment to send back to the camp for permanent upgrades. Create the ultimate build to survive the depths.

Our Expert Score

94/100

Halls of Torment is a masterclass in the 'survivors' genre, blending the addictive 'bullet heaven' loop with the gritty, pre-rendered aesthetic of 90s ARPGs like Diablo. The mobile port is exceptionally well-handled, with controls that feel tight and responsive even when the screen is literally filled with hundreds of skeletons and demons.

What sets this apart from competitors is the equipment system. Finding loot that persists across runs and can be upgraded at a hub adds a massive layer of meta-progression that makes every 30-minute run feel valuable. The 'Quest' system also guides you toward trying new builds and characters, ensuring the game stays fresh for dozens of hours. It’s dark, punishing, and incredibly rewarding—one of the best games currently available on mobile.

Love this game

I got this on steam, but I had to get the mobile version for on the go! I just have one gripe with this game though. It does not save your run progress. It does not continue your previous run, so I close the game if I need to stop playing for some reason. I think the steam version is the same. But I have more time to play when I'm on my PC playing games. Other than that though, this game is really good! A kitty of and good work put into it. It actually makes me think if Diablo went survival mode. But better than modern Diablo games. Love your survival games, keep them coming!

Good, with caveat

This is a fun game. I'm not one to like games that put pressure on the player, and that's kind of the premise of this game, but it does it in such a way that I find it much more enjoyable than other games of its type. It could use some refinement; some of the abilities, like the freezing ability that shoots freezing things off in diagonal directions, are way too visually busy and cause more distraction to the player than anything else, making it difficult to see everything that's going on around you. and it seems to me I've encountered another glitchy thing or two, though I can't remember at the moment what they were. But overall, I quite like this game and do recommend it.

Controller Support!

I loved this on Steam, and I’m glad to see there are both a paid, and free version on mobile. Only issue I have is the controller mapping for the main hub (the camp/main menu) is incomplete and some prompts are doubled (press “A” on 2 different options) but other than that, this is a very fun survivors game.

Room for improvement

TLDR It’s a fun fantasy bullet hell in need of some polish and progression direction. Mobs get locked outside playable areas, bugging out in walls and areas off screen. Buffs and stats are not readily explained. Force, for example, affects several factors but you’d have to search the wiki to find that out. Some content and quest progression is locked behind low paywalls. (Need a premium class to unlock achievement that unlocks the next quest.) Progression is achieved through a loose network of achievements and arbitrary quests. There’s not enough lore or story to drive the player toward anything. Just have to enjoy the gameplay and look for your own path forward. Features like the vault aren’t explained. Many things are just left for the player to try and figure out themselves. That’s fine for exploration and environmental storytelling but not core features or game modes.

Needs auto stat leveling
Sat Sep 13 2025 Painhappy

This is a fun game but the constant level ups with the need to manually chose what stat you wanna upgrade, is very tedious and is an overall headache. The exciting gameplay slows to a crawl when you can’t even move because you are hit with a ton of levels all at once. You stand there as you go in and out of the skill interface over, and over, and over while you are manually scrolling down and selecting a small increase in stats. Make this more streamlined and I think your player base would greatly appreciate it.

Good, but a bit rough around the edges.

The gameplay is fun, although progressing feels very slow, also an option to zoom in during a game and an option to move the joystick to the opposite side would be major improvements in my opinion. The graphics are super cool, although I wish for a zoom function so I can better appreciate the graphics work more! All in all, it’s like a bite-sized Diablo thats needs a few things here and there. Best of luck to the dev team!

Great Game

Awesome game, I have it in Xbox also and it’s great. The gameplay loop is great, hoping for more levels eventually. The only reason I gave it a 4 star rating is because everything is so small on the screen, the game would be even better if there was some sort of zoom in option or if you guys could just increase the size of the characters and monsters. Overall it’s a good experience and fun game.

Was fun

Game has higher base stats for block not sure if bug, qol boost or new changes… Some features are paywalled even if achievements are unlocked to skip. I like the idea of pay to fast unlock, boost gold, reduce ads, gold boosts etc, gems system however seems imbalanced. The gems system makes it p2w or play, the level 4 halls or harder require basic gems that add 3800% or more damage making most skill or gear choices irrelevant, less focus on skill than premium game. The vault system, i cannot change difficulty just make it easier to farm gems unlike premium I do love faster unlocking of magic gear since vault is a breeze. Its buggy, magic gear is 0gp, basic is thousands. I did vault in 2min, on pc i struggle with 9-12min times. Stuff has higher base stats which can be fun. Call this game something else , its confusing to premium
