Updated for iOS 15
Causality is an incredibly clever and minimalist puzzle game that forces you to think in multiple timelines. It takes the concept of 'pathfinding' and adds a temporal twist: you aren't just moving characters through a maze, you are manipulating time itself to ensure they reach their goals without colliding or falling into traps. The level design is deviously smart, often requiring you to purposefully send a character into a 'death' state in one timeline to trigger a switch that saves them in another.
The aesthetic is strikingly clean, with a vibrant color palette and smooth animations that make the trial-and-error process feel elegant rather than frustrating. There is a profound 'Aha!' moment at the end of every level when your convoluted plan finally synchronizes perfectly and every character reaches their exit at the same time. It’s a quiet, cerebral experience that respects the player's intelligence. For fans of games like 'Braid' or 'Monument Valley,' Causality is a must-play masterpiece of the genre.
Innovative time-scrubbing puzzle mechanics
60 levels of increasing complexity and paradoxes
Stunning minimalist alien environments
Sync play across multiple devices
Unlockable secret 'pro' challenges
Later levels introduce time portals. You can send an astronaut into a portal to have them reappear earlier in the level. Use this 'duplicate' to hold down pressure plates while the original astronaut moves forward.
The bottom of the screen features a time bar. Sliding left or right scrubs through the events. Tap tiles to change directions or toggle switches, then play the timeline forward to see if the astronauts reach their goals.
Yes, because the game is based on a timeline, you can simply scrub the time bar back to any point to change a decision.
Has anyone been able to beat 407 because I’ve tried what I think is every possible way and nothing . Even with that trying to control the teleport timing i’m about to lose it . I haven’t given up on 408 yet that seems doable but 407 , it has to be in there to mess with people . Unless there is some way to alter which way you turn at the end of a path without arrows . I would like to be contacted about this . If you’ve been able to beat 407 please let me know Thanks
UPDATE: Still hands down my favorite App Store game EVER! Enough time has passed now I can play it AGAIN!!! 😍 Maybe I will finally figure out Puzzle #410 on my own this time 🤞😬 Planning to check out Ordia by the same devs next - this game also has great reviews. UPDATE: So it’s been a few years since I’ve played this amazing game, and it’s still just that — AMAZING!! I will never delete this app 🤗 Once again, I had to look up the solution for Puzzle #410 and it is still absolutely insanely brilliant 👏🤩 ORIGINAL: Awesome game, really unique concept. If you like challenging logic puzzles, go on and get your $2 out. I just finished the last puzzle and have already been to the devs website looking for more! RE: Puzzle #410 - wow, what a mind bender 😱 I spent 3 days on that one.
I can’t get over the initial depressingly eerie music as I tried to figure out how it works. The choice of sounds is so deeply downing on my spirit and feels so haunting to one’s soul that I could barely tolerate it less than a minute. It was too much of a distraction and there’s no point playing an app game without the accompaniment of background music in it. Too bad because I loved the visuals of the game and it’s cool concepts. It’s why a 2 stars instead of just one. Hopefully, am only a few that’s bothered by( to me ) a horrific depressing choice of sounds chosen by its developers. No choice but had to removed it. First time I tried an app game less than a minute, or was it 30 seconds? Oh well, from most of the reviews, I’m not worry of the effects of my one review. Have fun if you’re not bothered by the sounds! GL!
This game is INCREDIBLY underrated! It’s a shame I’m discovering it 3 years later. I just downloaded this on a whim earlier today and it’s exactly what I was looking for. I really like fun puzzle games just like this one. It scratches my brain in exactly the way I need! It’s a bit like Portal, but the way they incorporate the concept of time and distance is absolute GENIUS. The UI is so intuitive and easy to get started! The music great, the sound effects satisfying. Honestly, this is a total gem! I’m already dreading running out of puzzles!
Great game. I had to skip level 307 because in my version, it simply doesn't work. I resorted to looking at the solution, and it's not what happens on my iPhone 6. In the shown solution, after creating the ghost, you turn away from the transporter, and continue with the astronaut and the ghost. But in fact, on my iPhone at least, when I turn away from the transporter, the ghost disappears. Otherwise, great game, only had to cheat twice (not counting level 307).
I typically download then delete games quickly, but this one had me hooked until I cleared every level. I’ve never had so much fun playing a mobile game before. It’s the perfect balance between challenging and fun, it makes you use your noggin rather than rely on speed or accuracy, and it has a great time travel twist that forces the player to use logic to solve paradoxes and such. Highly recommended for any puzzle and/or sci-fi nerd!
Great game. The music is a bit haunting, like the isolation of outer-space. The challenge ramps up nicely, and the bonus levels can be quite difficult. I’ve been working on the last two levels for some time now. I’ll admit I looked up solutions to a couple of levels, but I’m determined to solve these last two on my own. Thank you to the developer for fixing the bug on 4-14!
Is there a specific genre for these kind of Time travel type puzzle, step sequence timed trial type app games? There needs to be. sure I’m not the only person who absolutely loves these type of games & has a hard time finding them. Sifting through all the norm boring puzzle crap out there.
