Bug fixes and performance improvements.
Whirly Word is exactly the game I was looking for to replace my former favorite word game whose ads became longer than each game. I love that there’s a dictionary to build vocabulary, and that I can often completely solve the basic level games, but enjoy the challenge. I love that it is a simple interface and there are no ads. I wish the instructions were a little better. I don’t know what the badges mean besides that the lower numbers are better. The vocabulary leans heavy on the harder words being biological terms, unusual spellings, or abbreviations and proper nouns. For instance, anil, Tao, and noncom are valid, but ade and guyot are not. I checked the online Scrabble dictionary for these words, and all were valid except ade, which seems strange, because an ade isn’t unusual for a fruit drink. I must surmise, then, that all word games are subject to the knowledge and biases of their creators. I do wish it were possible to access the full Whirly Word dictionary between games, and also add words to the dictionary for our local use, but I can live with that.
I purchased this game on June 12, 2010. Yesterday, December 5, 2022, I completed my 1,000th puzzle—same game without stopping first on an iPod Touch (remember them?) and then continuing on at least five different iPhones through those years. First, a big thank you to the developer for continuing to support this game for so long! You are a rare find. Second, I love to do one or two puzzles on this every now and then (obviously). I am so glad there is no timer or punishment for incorrect guesses. I have enough pressure in my life and don’t need stress from my games! Third, I love the fact this works with no internet or cellular connection. Many games crash out when you can’t get a signal! I have used this app deep in the woods and way up in the sky on an airplane over the past 12 years. It does not matter if that dreaded NO SIGNAL message appears; this game works like a charm. Fourth, thanks for having the dictionary so easily available. I feel like I continue to discover new words when I think no word can fit in alphabetically, but one does! I have taught high school English for years and continue to learn new words. Thanks again for what I would say is just about a perfect game. (I guess I sometimes wish I could add my own six-letter words, but no big deal.) THANK YOU!
Yep. That pretty much sums it up. I've had a lot of fun using the abridged word list so now I'm rocking the tournament one. This is the only game that offers two word lists in the options and you end up with massive amounts of puzzles between the two of them. I'm getting better at scrabble and actually beat my husband for the first time! He's a walking talking encyclopedia but lost gracefully. There are words in it from different religions such as Christian, Judaism, Budism, Islam, etc. If you are closed-minded, a bigot or a racist then you will be just as offended by this game as you must be by the common dictionary. But if you just want to have fun exploring words, than you’ll love this game!
This is my go-to game when waiting in line or whenever I’m looking for a relaxing way to spend a little time. No annoying ads or in-app promos, no up selling or ‘packages’ to buy. If I can’t solve the puzzle completely I can give in and get the answer for future reference. Some of the words have uncommon or multiple spellings but you can pick up on those easily after running into them a time or two. Overall, this game has been a favorite for years and I highly recommend it.
I’ve had this game since it first launched on the App Store It never disappoints! Amazing range of words. I’ve read some of the reviews that some words don’t come up when spelled...it’s not that the game doesn’t recognize the words, it’s what words were preselected for that particular game. Also, someone had mentioned “the words are not of any language.” NOT TRUE!! Try tapping the word that you couldn’t figure out. The dictionary will explain the word. Clearly this is an ALL LANGUAGE word game. On top of that, add in medical language. I absolutely love it!!!
Love this game. I play it almost every day. Some people mentioned the weird words but that makes it interesting if sometimes frustrating. It’s one of my favorites. I love that I payed for it up front and don’t have to endure all those awful ads that interrupt all the other games. Those drive me crazy and that is the biggest reason I enjoy this game so much. I would rarely play it if it had ads. I recommend it frequently to people, even if I don’t even know them beyond a simple conversation.
Yeah, the dictionary used for the game is a bit weird and it doesn't allow perfectly good words if they are even remotely close to being PG-13, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. I was very surprised to see the recent update because it had literally been years since the last one. I assumed the developers had moved on but glad to see I was wrong.
I’ve been playing Whirly Word for years! I’ve had it on my phone for a very long time. It’s simple and straightforward, has no ads, and is consistently exactly what I want from a word game. There’s not a lot of frills to it? But I don’t need any. I just want a nice, simple word game to play to help me sleep, and for that, Whirly Word is perfect.
