bug fixes, gameplay, and physics improvements
Tomb Toad is a brilliant fusion of retro aesthetics and modern physics-based puzzle design. It feels like a long-lost Game Boy title, complete with a gorgeous monochrome palette, but it plays like nothing else. Instead of controlling the toad directly, you rotate the entire world to navigate your character through deadly dungeons.
This 'world rotation' mechanic leads to some truly ingenious puzzles that require you to think about gravity in a completely new way. The level design is dense and challenging, often requiring frame-perfect timing to avoid spikes and enemies. The boss battles are a particular highlight, forcing you to use the rotation mechanic offensively. It’s an incredibly clever indie gem that perfectly demonstrates how a simple mechanic can lead to immense depth.
Unique world-rotation mechanics
Beautiful 1-bit/Retro art style
Over 100 handcrafted levels
Challenging physics-based boss fights
Don't just flip the world 180 degrees. Small, quick rotations allow the toad to 'walk' along walls, which is necessary for avoiding traps that cover the entire floor.
The bosses are defeated by dropping objects on them. Use the rotation to swing hanging weights or loose boulders into the boss's path while keeping yourself safe.
It's more of a physics-puzzle adventure, as you move the environment rather than jumping manually.
The perfect game to bend your mind no matter how much time you have to play. Tomb Toad takes the tight control and rewarding difficulty of a souls-like and mixes it with a Super Mario 3-like world and a gravity based puzzler. It may sound like an odd combination but the gameplay fits perfectly alongside it’s charming lo-fi graphics, fantastic pixel animations, catchy chip-tune soundtrack, and clever sense of humor. Each stage has a unique look and feel where the introduction of new dungeon denizens changes the mechanics and style of gameplay keeping it feeling fresh. The boss fights are equally unique and fit the overall theme of each stage well. It also gives you the freedom to explore the tombs and the overworld at your own pace with near constant auto saves and a non-linear progression. The level editor is intuitive to use and fully realized. The copy/paste mechanism for sharing your creations makes it simple to send them directly to other players or to post on Twitter.
I really enjoy this game, it is pretty tough and there is a slight learning curve with the controls when the difficulty starts to ramp up but overall I love the feel and style of the game worth the $. I do wish there was an easy place within the game to post user created levels because I love making them but want to try out other people’s creations. So that would be a really nice added feature !!
Tomb Toad is a highly addictive and inventive mobile game that will provide hours worth of pixelated dungeon fun. A throwback to retro gaming with unique mechanics, challenging gameplay, and a little bit of puzzle DNA thrown in. It’s well worth the purchase price for the amount of levels you get to work your way through. The style, soundtrack, and overall theme takes me right back to getting my first NES circa 1987.
This is the perfect puzzle game for mobile devices. The gameplay has so much depth especially with the difficult coins in each level. Such original gameplay, and I LOVE the level editor to make my own levels. So much polish, love the world that looks like a game boy game.
Please do it Add an option to turn off game sound. Other than that great game that looks polished and is pretty challenging actually to get the three coins
Guys help I can’t get anywhere past the ice world. I have the spyglass but when I go to the desert it just crashes. I assume this is where I’m supposed to go but I really have no idea. Please help. I love this game so much. I really want to finish it. If this is a bug please fix it!
Like the game but it does not save when you quit. This is unacceptable for a mobile game. Also needs a sensitivity slider. It can be difficult to turn quickly enough to get coins in the middle of a map.
I’m having a ton of fun with this game so far. The design space is very wide! I can’t wait to play lord and learn more about this world so I can contribute too with the map builder.
