A perfect game.
Tue Aug 08 2023 bleeps and bloops

I have been playing this game every single day since I first downloaded it in sixth grade, and I am now a senior in college. The movement of the tiles allows for more strategic play and the personification of each number is elegant and engaging. The repetitive motions and satisfying color scheme is ideal for anxiety management and mindfulness practice. I play threes when I am feeling anxious, happy, excited, nervous, depressed, and it is just as satisfying each time. Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE threes, and I am genuinely grateful to the creators of this game because it has been one of the most consistent things in my life. I have logged over 8 hours of screen time on threes in a single day, and I never tire of it, and I will play it everyday for the rest of my life. It is an incredible, captivating, and addicting game. Thank you.

Simple Elegance

I was motivated to review by seeing some of the complaints on featured reviews. I have played this game daily for months and find it engaging and challenging still. Yes it took only a few minutes to get started, but every game draws me in to paying thoughtful attention and is a joy. I know there is more to learn still as I have still never gotten to the 3072 tile after playing over 1000 times. Maybe because I enjoy playing before I go to sleep. Maybe because I’m stupid. Who knows? This game does randomly choose the next tile to add, and uses some randomness in choosing where to add it. So you might feel like you are doing everything “right” and promptly lose. Randomness is like that. I like managing for this as best I can, and am ok with losing and starting again.

A small mobile app turned into my favorite game of all time

Threes is a brilliant little game. The concept and execution of this is outstanding. It's cute, friendly, has amazing style and one of the best game soundtracks ever. It's one of the few games I play with full audio. I've put in thousands of hours into this game, and every month I keep improving and finding new ways to increase my scores. It has an amazing learning curve that anyone with over a Triferatu under their belt will know. Getting a Volleo might've been my greatest gaming achievement, and this is coming from a big console game. I've been playing this game since its release in 2014, and I haven't stopped since. I cannot think of a single game, mobile or console, that I've fallen this much in love with. 5/5.

Greatest Mobile Game of All Time

I just realized that after my hours and hours in this game I should leave a review. This is the perfect mobile game, both in its simplicity and feel — making it easy to jump in to a game while you’re idle — to its surprising depth of strategy that can be entirely captivating. The only thing I don’t like is when the “up next” is three different numbers, which feels like you’re too much at the whims of luck (although maybe it would be too easy otherwise). And that when coming from multitasking or unlock the app sometimes makes a move for me; I usually pause the game before I leave the screen just in case. Great stuff! Best money I’ve spent on a game to date.

Simply a great game.

Sometimes people just want to complain because they have a forum in which to do it, but not because they have anything worthwhile to say. The negative reviews regarding Threes is an example of that. This game is simple, challenging, and can fill hours of time if you allow yourself to get lost in the game. It’s the perfect example of a game that doesn’t harangue you with in app purchases, and the complaints about a merchandise page are ridiculous since you can scroll past it in an instant. This is a wonderful little gem that does not nickel and dime you for a great time. Ignore the detractors, for their negative opinions on this game are not warranted at all.

Novel and engaging for about 15 minutes

Threes! is a simple numbers game that involves moving rows and columns to create multiples of three, then add matching numbers to obtain larger multiples of three. That's it. Easy to learn, no apparent glitches, and no complaints at all, really, other than the occasional "baby-talk" voice acting. (Boy, that got grating quickly.) I simply lost interest. I played about 40-50 times, and there were no levels, awards, formatting/style changes, or rules added during gameplay. You start and end with the same board, and the only objective is to get as high a score as possible before you're blocked from making any other move. Assuming you can still download the app at no charge, I estimate you'll have about 15 to 20 minutes of free entertainment, and there's nothing wrong with that. You may enjoy it much more than I did, and thus I would encourage everyone to give it a whirl. P.S. I read some other reviews after publishing my own, and I noticed that some people paid up to three dollars for this game. To be clear, I would consider that a huge waste of money, and I would rate the game two stars if it had been anything other than free.

Another Great Game Ruined By Greed

Had a lot of potential to be fun but, as other reviewers have pointed out, the game is outright rigged against you. As you make progress and the grid fills up, the AI will send out 4 or 5 blue or red tiles in a row. The AI will also consistently block you from moving tiles to join with others. Now, it's more like playing against an opponent rather than an enjoyable puzzle game. The "update" has only made matters worse. Why make people pay for a game and then harangue them with ads for tacky merchandise? Must be to tick them off enough to not play. Hmm, seems like good business strategy to me 🤓 Seems like the developers don't realize that we have many other great apps vying for our time and money and that they only have a short window of time to attract and keep loyal players. Too bad that short sighted greed is ruining the App Store.

I always go back to Threes

I’ve had this game for years, literally years, since it first came out on iOS. I’ve downloaded and played many mobile games but this game never gets deleted, I love the style, colors, the music, the satisfying feeling of squishing numbers together. It’s so well designed, works with no internet connection (great for subway commutes) and that’s part of why I keep going back to it. I’ve played this through three phone generations - iPhone 4s, 5s, and now on my 6s. This is hands down the best mobile game purchase I’ve made, considering how many hours (years!) I’ve put in to it, and it never gets old.
