Dinsun Expert Review

Our Expert Score

85/100

Thomas & Friends Minis is an absolute delight for young fans of the franchise, successfully blending the creativity of a digital sandbox with the excitement of a racing game. As an expert in children's digital media, I’m impressed by how Budge Studios captured the charm of the 'Minis' toy line. The building mechanics are intuitive enough for a preschooler to grasp, yet detailed enough to allow for some truly imaginative track layouts that include loops, jumps, and even rollercoaster-style drops.

The inclusion of themed environments like Misty Island and London adds a layer of variety that keeps the gameplay from feeling repetitive. Collecting the different Minis—ranging from standard engines to robotic and prehistoric versions—provides a satisfying progression loop for kids. The 'Race' mode adds just the right amount of competitive edge without being frustrating, and the visual polish is exactly what you'd expect from a top-tier licensed title. It’s a safe, creative, and highly engaging digital playground.

Thomas/My Childhood Game (4 stars) here’s why…..
Thu Jun 19 2025 ElfChristmasTails 2.0!

I download this game a few weeks ago and it’s amazing get to play after so many months but a lot of people said that when finish’s collect all Thomas outfits and new things in his collection then things fall apart you suppose to buy to order to keep going? Yeah when I see this I immediately asked why would they do this I mean it’s not that expensive but why on a children game? So I just remove the app instead of buying it’s wasn’t about the money it’s was just why would do on kid friendly game? That’s my review today what do you think about the game? Anyways have a good day or night!

The first time the two sides agreed to meet in the first meeting

The most importantly thing that I learned about this was how the game is designed for people to be more active in their own life than the other way round so that people don’t get stuck on their game for a while because of their personal preferences or the game itself and they have a different way of playing the same thing every day for a while so so I don’t think that was a bad idea at the end but it is what I was thinking of and I’m just not really interested at all I just think it’s kind a fun to do and it’s not a game that you can enjoy but it’s just fun and I don’t think it would make sense for a game that you like and it’s just fun and it’s just like that it’s not that I think that is a game and it’s not a good thing to be fun to be fun to be honest with people who don’t want you to me I think that was the game that you know I think that’s why you don’t want you don’t know how it just doesn’t mean that is what you know I just want you don’t like that you don’t know how I just like you don’t like that you don’t want you

WARNING to parents from a parent

This game would get 5 stars if it didn’t, in my opinion, have a very unethical approach to in-app content. My three and a half year old loves the game. But it is literally IMPOSSIBLE for me as a parent to give him a version that doesn’t MAKE him ask for more. And that puts me on the hook for maybe $100. There is no free version here. Maybe to an adult looking at it. But to a kid, they just see a) all locked content as a part of the main navigation and b) continuous internal ads for that content. Repeat: Paying for content does NOT remove ads that are just a part of this app. And that’s a shame, because frankly, my kid loves it and I can’t afford all of it, so I’m gunna have to delete it. To be clear, the app makes it impossible that my child will be happy with it. That is unethical and also probably not good business practice. If you buy this app your child will quickly be asking you for the rest of the content. If you can afford to throw $100 at it, maybe you get the friendly version of this app that I’d rate highly. But as is, I find the whole thing really insulting and legally suspicious.

Great game for the price!

My son and I enjoy building together but the repetitive advertisements for more stuff does get a little annoying. A previous reviewer said they couldn’t find tunnels to go different ways (horizontal vs. vertical) that took us a while to figure out, too: lay some plain tracks pieces across the area you want to put the tunnel (or whatever) then when you carry the tunnel over that area, it will automatically flip to match the existing track. This is different than the instructions! Hey developers, you could change the game instructions to reflect this :). Overall my favorite free game for my 3 yr old. So yeah, I’m about to buy one of the expansion packs because it’s hard to say no to a 3 yr old stuck at home in a pandemic... 😆

WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!

Parents read before you download! This app is amazing, super high quality and so much fun. However, to unlock the entire thing it costs over $70. Sure, there are bits you can play for free but the app is constantly showing your child all the things that have to be paid for, so either they are constantly disappointed and frustrated or bugging you to drop more and more money to unlock it all. Honestly if the entire game was $20 it would be worth it, without a doubt I would have unlocked it all. I actually did this with another Thomas racing game, where $20 unlocked the entire game, which felt worth it to me. But this game feels unethical and gross. Which is such a shame because it’s a truly wonderful game. I highly recommend not ever downloading it, because there’s no going back once your kid falls in love with it, which they will.

Fun But some Ideas!

Ok so when you finish the first set (Thomas) You get the next one That was number #1 This is number #2 The platform that you put the items on could be a bit bigger. #3 (Not really a idea) I just started playing and I Realized that this Was so FUN! I would actually start watching the show since I wasn’t really a fan. #4 A suggestion box in the game so you don’t have to leave the game that’s actually kinda long That’s my opinion. #5 Making the game online, you need permission for the person to let you join it. #6 (Last one) Using your skins and racing on your track to upgrade your skin.

Some approving but good

I think this game should have a story mode and a online mode I’m not gonna talk about what I think you’re doing what you have and all that valley something more than you build track and search how are you like to see year fixed on track and do maybe some tiny vases I don’t see other minis I don’t know something that like is is that I’m just building drag like maybe having to fix Jack’s games are in parts for surgeons you’ll be able to customize your engines like that I want to have a little bit we can drive out your. Microphone doesn’t work the best

NEW UPDATE IDEAS

I love the game but make some things free and make a create your own Engine tracks and terrain! Also can you add a story mode and animate the Engine body like the episodes and add to Spencer’s box a little. Including muddy spencer, christmas spencer and oily spencer and add a new James mini here comes James or black James for short. And make a online racing center. Where you can play online races mini games and saves the saves are when you save an Engine from an accident. Last thing re-name hero the master of the railway. Thank you other than that I love the game and I’m sorry for asking for everything to be free.
