I still love this app! I play it all the time--I've grown bored with most every other game (or finished all levels--or plateaued!). Last update is great--very easy to use. I can almost always finish the "Evil" level puzzles. UPDATE: I still play this once every day! Keeps my mind working. If you've never tried Sudoku puzzles, the different levels lead you to mastery in no time at all! UPDATE ON MY UPDATE: I have no idea when I first downloaded this app. I have played most of the games out there…get tired of them…delete them…then a couple of years download it again. I NEVER get tired of this. I have three degrees in science, math, and medicine, and not much holds my interest. This app does. Try it…I think you’ll like it. ANOTHER Update: They keep asking for an update…so since I just keep playing this game, I WILL keep updating! Still playing. Still loving it. Ditto on everything I’ve written previously. 👍🏼

The Best Sudoku App

It’s beautifully designed, the developers are very responsive, and it’s simply wonderful to not have to pay for a subscription. If I have one complaint it’s this: I keep finding that certain puzzles don’t quite match up to their levels. Difficult-level puzzles will actually be Hard, Medium will be Difficult, Hard will be Difficult, etc. This doesn’t happen all the time—maybe like 5-10% of the puzzles I get—but it’s kind of frustrating. The developers deserve no blame though: I’m guessing the algorithm used to create the puzzles probably needs to be tweaked a little, and that’s not always easily accomplished. Please don’t let this detract from this review though, because I adore this app, and use it all the time.

Good - could be improved

This is a pretty good sudoku app. Appreciate the inventiveness of the developers in terms of some of the designs like double clicking on single candidate cells to enter the solution as well as visual enhancements like highlighting rows, columns of selected cells and remaining candidates if a solved cell is selected. Recommended improvements: 1. add a toggle for normal mode/notes mode such that normal mode stays on. If you recognize solutions for a series of cells that have multiple candidates, it’s clunky to have to hit the pencil button with each successive cell before entering a solution. 2. Generate “evil” puzzles that are more difficult. The gap between easy and evil is not that wide, while the gap between evil and diabolical is huge. 3. After a puzzle has been completed, allow the menu to go away after hitting Done or Cancel so we can admire it for a little while. Thanks. Appreciate the good work.

The game is well designed with one exception. When you fill in a number for a box as an answer, rather than a note of a possible solution for a box, it will automatically erase all conflicting notes on other boxes. So if I put “9,” for example in a box, it will automatically erase all other notes where 9 might be an answer in the same rows and columns. That is good! But it’s very easy to put down a number accidentally as an answer, when you only intend to list it as a note of possible answers. When you do that, and I promise you will accidentally do that more than once, a bunch of your notes on other boxes are automatically erased. If you don’t catch it right away, it will ruin that game.

The Perfect Fix for the Sudoku Addict!

Review 2.0: I've been playing this version of Sudoku for several months now, and I want to thank the app developers for providing a version of the game for the adults! No funny animals, no storybook themes, no frantic distractions! Just a great app with plenty of boards to challenge you. For the greatest variety of challenge levels and no ads to distract you, spring for the "pay-to-play" version. It does not disappoint. Every player, from the beginner to a master's level player, will find a grid to their liking. Enjoy enjoy! Review 3.0: As I said before! Simply, the best. Review 4.0: I’m doing “medium” level grids, and am enjoying the challenge. Keep up the good work! As I said before, simply, the best!

Fantastic.

Undoubtedly the best version of sudoku available on iOS. Clean and fast interface, quality of life tools that can be toggled easily mid-game, easy to make notes, auto population of notes that update automatically as you play, wide range of difficulty level, statistics on play history. I love this app, and I recommend it to everyone that likes/is interested in sudoku. I wish dearly that they would also make other board sizes available (16x16, 4x4) but only because it’s such a drag to play other board sizes on other interfaces now that I’m used to this excellent app.

Great app!

This is definitely the best Sudoku app I've found so far! The only feature that I feel is very sadly missing: the ability to input our own custom puzzles (from a newspaper or what have you). That would make it a 5-star app for sure. Thank you! ----- Update: I still love this app! Some other things I've noticed: There is a huge jump in difficulty between Evil and Diabolical. With Evil puzzles, I can't really use any of the advanced strategies I know, but with Diabolical, they can often ONLY be solved using guess and check (at least this is true for me). Is there any way to make Evil just a touch harder than it is? After reading the reviews, I think it's clear that users aren't looking at the available settings. There are so many options to customize your experience, it's so great! But people don't seem to know. Perhaps a popup for first time players would be helpful. You could include a "how this works" gif for some of the more "confusing" options, so that people know exactly what to expect when they tap squares, depending on the setting.

Ugly and clunky but technically works

My other app switched to a subscription based model so I’m trying out new sudoku apps. This one is bad considering it’s paid. At least it’s cheap. The note-taking interface is clunky and confusing. Instead of just being on or off at the push of one button it’s sometimes on or sometimes off. If you press a square with notes already in it then the note feature is automatically on. It’s just ugly and clunky. It also doesn’t show if you placed a number wrong; matter of preference I guess but I’d rather know right away that I made an error. Anyway I’d give this one star but since it technically functions as a sudoku app, it gets two.
