Our Expert Score

82/100

Sonic Forces: Run Battle Game is a high-octane take on the endless runner genre that thrives on its competitive multiplayer focus. Unlike traditional runners, the goal here isn't just to survive, but to outpace and out-sabotage three other real-time opponents. The maps are beautifully rendered recreations of iconic Sonic locales like Green Hill Zone, filled with the loops and rails you'd expect. The addition of power-ups adds a 'kart racer' feel to the foot racing, where a well-timed lightning bolt or trap can turn the tide of a match.

The character roster is a major highlight, featuring everyone from Sonic and Tails to more obscure fan-favorites. The progression system involves collecting cards to upgrade your runners, which provides a satisfying sense of growth, though it does lean into the mobile 'loot' style of advancement. Overall, it captures the speed and attitude of the Sonic franchise perfectly, offering quick, intense bursts of 4-player action that are perfect for mobile play. If you're a fan of the Blue Blur, this is easily one of the most polished mobile entries in the series.

It’s Good! Here’s Ideas to improve!

This game is like the game I wish Sonic Forces was just as good. However this game in my opinion is 50 times better! And I have ideas to improve the game! The first idea is about characters: the main characters are in the game(all most all) but however I really think Gamma, Tails Doll, and Mecha Knuckles, Classic Tails, Classic Eggman, and Classic Knuckles also Classic Metal Sonic and Amy would really send everyone off the roof since your making this new Sonic Classic Collection Thing. The other idea I want to point out is well the new daily shop: it’s a good idea really, just needs to make some of the rarer items on sale way more cheaper like Eggman is already hard to upgrade. I can still manage without crawling to death! It’s not bad just annoying to see 3 Eggman cards is worth 90 red rings when I can get 6 Eggman cards for playing a match. The last thing I would like to mention is a new gimmick I think you should do. For example Zavok is slow but his items attacks are wicked OP but what if someone wants to play as Zavok but speed style? You could make 3 possible styles, Normal, Heavy, and Light. Light style is higher speed but low power. Heavy style is higher power but lower speed. I don’t know what the third style can remove in return so that’s up to you! Hopefully you will read this and make some of these characters real and maybe fix the daily shop and maybe my new gimmick idea so ZAVOK won’t be countered to death literally he has the worst win rate in Elite and below.

Didn’t wanna to this but…

I usually don’t give reviews for games, but the amount of people writing one star reviews this one made me change my mind as I don’t want people to get the wrong idea about this great game. To the people complaining about the trophy system, I understand you in the fact that it could use an upgrade, but I think most people miss this part. Your ranking at the end of each race isn’t the only factor taken into account, the other factor is the trophy count of all of the racers prior to the match. This is to balance the game as players with a lower trophy count don’t lose as much trophies as someone with a higher trophy count and vice versa. I have an idea to fix that but I’ll put that in a different review because I don’t want this one to get longer that it already is. To the people complaining about micro-transactions and ads, all I have to say is that Sonic Forces: Mobile (I’ll call it Speed Battle) is still a mobile game and all most mobile games have both of these things so get over it. Also don’t complain about micro-transactions in Speed Battle when OG Sonic Runners exists. To the people (probably Karens) complaining about their kid(s) dumping money into this game, keep a better eye on your kid(s) and stop being a bad parent. Just because you don’t wanna pay attention to your kid(s) doesn’t mean that what they do is the fault of the game, your kid(s) is/are your responsibility. Imo this game is great but needs a few updates, but version 3.8 looks like a good start. All of these changes will make a great game even better.

Still better than 06

So I’m watching some sonic forces Gameplay, and I decide to go search for sonic games in the App Store bc I had nothing else better to do with my life. THEN I STUMBLED UPON THIS GAME! AND OH MAN IS IT FUN! I reckon that the game will get repetitive and boring after a while mainly because the stages might all change in design but they still keep the same gameplay aspects as in every other stage. The game itself is fun, having basically the same card collecting and upgrade mechanic of Clash Royale, and containing the fun of Sonic Dash and Sonic Dash 2, but bringing multiplayer into the mix. You’ll have a pretty good time in the game and there’s a good variety of characters to play as, each having different power-up setups and starting benefit. Now about the Ads. Ads can be annoying, but in this game you mostly just get 5 second Ads after a match and it’s up to you whether to watch a 30 second Ad for extra coins/cards or not. Pretty balanced. No glitches found yet, the app doesn’t crash for no reason, Ads don’t pop up randomly throughout a match and it’s an all in all fun experience. 5 Stars because nothing seems wrong about the game. Nothing bothers me and it’s pretty fun to play. It’s not the best game ever but it surely isn’t the worst! Thanks for reading this time consuming review on a smartphone game online! I hope you found this useful and if you haven’t downloaded the game yet I honestly recommend you to give it a try, despite anything you’ve heard about sonic. •~• A N D S O N I C 0 6

Hello Sega I think that this game is amazing but it has some problems. Like the point system if it is random the please change it because when I win a race I want to actually win not get first but get less point then the person in second and third should not lose more than fourth or get the same amount as first. Maybe do something like if you get first you get 18 - 32 points and second gets 6 -17 third gets 5 - negative 7 and fourth gets negative 8 - negative 20. Also some characters need to be nerfed like movie tails, rusty rose, mephiles, infinite, and boscage maze sonic just to name a few. Movie tails can protect himself pretty much the whole match and his boost should not be invincible. Rusty rose just does waaaaay to much damage, mephiles can spam h8s moves way to much making it impossible to use your items, infinite’s second hit affect lasts to long and does a lot of damage, and boscage maze sonics tree move can’t be jumped has the nature affect and does a lot of damage. I think boosts like super form should be buffed so that the rings go down a tad bit slower the lighting zap does a bit more damage. I also think that boosts should not do too much damage. I think that there are to many ads like after almost every single race there’s an ad and I think that it’s just annoying now. The game is amazing though I love that there are so many characters. I have ideas for characters like dark sonic or hyper sonic etc. but I think that the game is doing great overall.

Great, but has one problem...

This is an amazing game. I wanted to rate it 5 stars because it works. SEGA listens to the complaints of fans. They have regular updates and add (some questionable because of the game it’s based off of) new characters at a decent rate. So what’s keeping me from changing to 5 stars? This game doesn’t keep my attention very long. I play many other games. This is one of my top 3, but I’ll only go in to unlock a free chest every now and then. Also, Red Rings costs too much. And my biggest problem: you can STILL collect characters who are at max level. NO. I want Rare and Super Rare characters. That’s not easy when you can max out ALL common characters and still collect their cards after battle races. They tried to draw people back by adding the Season element, which admittedly was a great idea, SEGA gives recognition to the top 9 players worldwide after the Season ends. But after a while, if you win a lot, or lose a lot, you lose interest. The only skill involved is the ability to swipe at the right time, whether that be stage obstacles, or items thrown by opponents. Boosts are fast, but are VERY hard to control. I have it at 4 stars because everything works great, mules better than the ACTUAL Sonic Forces, but it suffers one of the biggest reasons to why Sonic Forces is looked down upon. It doesn’t keep your attention for more than an hour or two. Recommended only to those dedicated to EVERYTHING, even if it gets boring over time.

Disappointed

It’s a great game but when it comes time for me to run a character in a new event half the time the game will stop letting me play for days until the new event has ended making me miss out on character cards such as this karate knuckles I planned on getting him to at least level 6 maybe 8-10 and as I unlock him at level 1 two days after the event starts I haven’t been able to play since then and this has happened multiple times over the past year I’ve played it. More importantly you rlly have a naming system but no friends list I should be able to add someone who I beat or who beat me and race them in party matches. Another thing why does your game literally have hackers like it’s not that serious lag switchers are in every other game I play and this is all love cause I play this game every week like I’ve spent a good amount of time and money on this game just sum of this stuff is simple fixes that would make the game grow exponentially. Another thing the back and forth between characters for the side missions is terrible most of the time a person is playing for one why am I having to cycle through another character not useful to my gameplay jus to get there cards but primarily why am I unable to play right now imma be unable to tmmr and until this event ends jus causing me to miss out on fighting knuckles why even put him in when I can’t play for him?.

PLEASE READ!! Please this stuff!!!!

Good game. Gets boring after awhile. That’s why it’s cool when they add new characters. A few too many adds. Now for the recommendations: #1: Add Classic Tails. You added Classic Sonic, so it’s only fair to add his buddy. #2: Add landscape mode. This game would be really cool if you could play it in landscape mode. That is, play it with your device turned horizontally. One time, the game glitched, and it actually did let me play in landscape. This only happened once, but it was very cool. I got to see more of the area where chests are opened after battles. And of the battle course! #3: PLEASE add in the Custom Character!! That’d be so awesome! And seeing as this IS based off of Sonic Forces, (The same game the Custom Character was in) it makes sense to add them in. If you do, it’d be so awesome if you could unlock different accessories/features, (And obviously choose the gender) and maybe even change the species!! Of course, if you do decide to add this, I know it’d take a pretty long time to do so. So I understand if it doesn’t happen for a long time. But if you’d like to take this suggestion, please write back and tell me that you will so that I know I’m not hoping for something that isn’t coming. I know I’m asking a LOT, but I’d REALLY appreciate it. Thanks for reading. 😊👋 — A Big Sonic Fan | Edit: #4 PLEASE add an “Are you sure?” Message when your about to buy something out of the shop with red star rings. I accidentally just bought something. It’d be really nice to prevent this in the future. Thx! Bye!

Great game overall, but...

I’ve had this game for a few days now (technically longer because I've owned this app before), and it's really fun! The variety of characters makes it near impossible to not find a character you like! And the fact that you have no control over the stage really keeps you on your toes! However, despite that, there are a few things that I (possibly more people) would like changed. First, the variety in music. Whenever you race, depending on the stage, you will get 1 of only 2 soundtracks; Green Hill: Lost Valley and Luminous Forest, which, when you listen to over and over again, can both get slightly annoying. To fix this, I recommend putting in soundtracks that fit the stage. For example, for the City stages, use Sunset Heights or Park Avenue. Secondly, when I first owned the app, during one of the races, I received a phone call. However, it was one of those calls that you couldn't skip. So, I had to anxiously wait it out, and when the caller gave up, I was VERY far behind. What I recommend is a feature that allows you to not receive phone calls while you are in a race. One last thing. I think Infinite should be a playable character. I mean, there's no reason NOT to. Some of the characters you can race as AREN'T EVEN IN THE GAME. Anyway, his abilities would be Illusion Launch (A projectile exclusive to him that launches the things that flips the opponent's controls(you can rename it if you want to)) and Illusion Mine, and his boost would be Illusion Boost. I hope all of this information helps! :)
