Fixed tutorial videos not playing
Santorini is one of those rare board game ports that actually feels better on a screen. The 3D graphics are vibrant and capture the charm of the physical game, while the touch interface makes building towers feel very natural. The AI is surprisingly competent, providing a real challenge even for seasoned players.
What makes Santorini special is the 'God Powers'. Every game feels different because you have to adjust your strategy based on which mythological ability you and your opponent are using. It's 'easy to learn, hard to master' in its purest form. Whether you're playing solo or against friends online, it’s a brilliant tactical experience that belongs on every board gamer's phone.
Fully rendered 3D graphics
Online and local pass-and-play
Over 34 God Powers included
Single-player campaign mode
Always try to stay adjacent to your opponent. If they move to a level 2 block, you need to be able to build a dome (level 4) on top of it to block their victory.
Before a match, you'll select a God Power. For example, Apollo allows you to swap positions with an enemy worker, while Athena prevents opponents from moving up if you didn't move up on your turn.
Yes, you can play with friends or match with random opponents globally.
This app is a near-flawless implementation of the fantastic board game on which it is based. It is beautiful and elegant. I have played the app off and on for years, and I still find new things to learn. Santorini is a much deeper and more nuanced game than many given it credit for. Minus 1/2 star because I have occasional crashes, which are frustrating. Minus 1/2 star because there is no random player order. I hate resetting a match just to change start order. Please add a random first player option!
Santorini is a wonderfully simple and and tactical abstract strategy game and this implementation is fantastic! There art is breathtaking and the user interface is highly usable on smaller devices like phones. There were some issues losing the video tutorials from within the app last I checked, but you can find them online. My only request would be that they do PC port. I’ve been burned one too many times by iOS changing things and games become unplayable because developers aren’t generating enough new income on older titles to justify the update. Please release it for PC!
As resident board game geek in my house, it is useful learning as well as humbling to be able to play against the AI after playing the physical board game with my family. I do wish the helper portion of the game had a map section that would track your piece movement play whenever you are using a god who would otherwise be using the shield/hidden map options (e.g. Hecate). I know you can play a parallel 2 human game on your phone to track things in the board game but I would prefer not to have to pay to unlock gods again on my phone when I’ve bought the physical game already.
The implementation of the board game is pretty fine but I was disappointed to find that all the links to the tutorials don’t work. The timer just spins and spins. It’s been so long since an update that it seems that maybe there are no plans to keep the app up to date. If you like the game and want to play against an AI this is fine but just know that you won’t have access to the tutorials. I don’t know if the game will continue to be playable over time without updates. It also looks as if the link to contact the creators is dead so you can’t contact the company to ask them if they plan to fix the broken tutorials.
The app has a beautiful interface. The game is simply fantastic. however, the app crashes every once in a while, when I’m playing an opponent—one of my friends—online. If that could be fixed, and if they added a save mode, so you could play the same match throughout the day, rather than having to finish the game right away when you start (if you leave the app for longer than 20 seconds or so, it kicks you out and ends the match), this app would be perfect!
I am obsessed with the board game. I burnt my husband out on it though so I had to download it on my phone and play against the AI to quench my addiction. Unfortunately the game keeps crashing, usually when the game is only a few moves from completion. It's incredibly frustrating. I've tried restarting my phone, closing all apps, etc. I don't know what to do to fix it but it's very frustrating.
An excellent digital implementation for my favorite game. The amount of detail surprises me (especially for a board game app). I don’t play online, but it’s a great way to pick gods (and regulate matchups as it doesn’t select banned matchups) or pass the time against the AI when I’m not playing the actual game with friends. There is so much to explore and so many ways to play this really simple yet insanely deep game 10/10 give it a try!
The “tutorial” is a series of videos, so beware. The gameplay is pretty straightforward, but each god has a twist, so I think it took me 30 games to win one, but even at a 30 to 1 loss rate, the game is still really fun. The sessions are short, which is perfect for mobile. I’ve already purchased all the DLC packs, and the new gods are a blast! This is the ultimate “simple to learn, lifetime to master” game. It is a battery killer, so beware of that. Kinda unavoidable in good premium games.
