The complete version of Roundguard with all expansions included is bouncing back onto the App Store!
Roundguard is what happens when you take the addictive physics of 'Peggle' and smash it into a deep, funny roguelike dungeon crawler. Instead of shooting silver balls, you’re launching heroes (Warrior, Rogue, Wizard, or Druid) into rooms filled with monsters, loot, and hazards. Every bounce deals damage or collects gold, and the strategy comes from using your hero's unique skills mid-air to redirect your momentum or blast enemies.
What makes it a great roguelike is the 'Permadeath with Benefits' system. Even when a run ends in disaster, you usually get to bring a trinket back for the next run, making you feel like you're always making progress. The writing is genuinely funny, with a cast of 'oddball' characters like rats who want to kill their king or a moody teenage skeleton. It’s highly polished, supports controllers, and has no ads. It’s easily one of the best 'one more run' games on the App Store.
Unique pinball-meets-dungeon-crawler physics
Four playable classes with distinct skill sets
Procedurally generated levels and permadeath progression
Over 200 items and trinkets to collect
Daily puzzles and weekly runs with special rules
Smash as many gold pots as possible during your descent. The more gold you collect, the better the trinket you can select at the end of your run for your next attempt.
Don't just watch your hero bounce! Activate class-specific skills like the Warrior's 'Whirlwind' or the Rogue's 'Double Jump' to change direction and hit priority targets.
Every run features a new layout of rooms, monsters, and events, ensuring that your path to the boss is always a fresh challenge.
Equip weapons and armor with special effects that synergize with your skills. Finding the right combo of items is the key to surviving the later floors.
Yes, Roundguard is fully compatible with PlayStation, Xbox, and MFi controllers.
this game is wonderful. i’ve been a gamer for longer than i can remember, but i had always been reluctant to try roguelikes because even just thinking about the idea of permadeath made me anxious. but the peggle series holds a special, nostalgic place in my heart and it’s one of those games that doesn’t get mimicked often, so i thought i’d give this one a shot. and wow, i’m so glad i did! i panicked a bit when i died for the first time and lost all my equipment and loot, but something still made me want to try again. and then again. and then again. i quickly learned how addictive the “just one more round” gameplay loop of roguelikes can be, and i’ve never looked back! do yourself a favor and give it a shot like i did. you won’t regret it.
If you were let down by Peglin and like rogue likes and RPGs, this is a definite no brained. Controller support makes it shine. Achievements are approachable and fun. Loot makes it a blast to play, the mechanics add some nice fun flair. Fun graphics and gameplay make this a must, especially since its on sale, grab it now!
TLDR: Fun for a few hours, not fun after you beat it once due to future “difficulty” modes dumbing down an already somewhat shallow game. There are a lot of issues in the game that needs to be addressed. 1. Starting skills should just be selectable. It makes no sense why it is random, considering some skills are just straight up worse versions of other skills. 2. Choosing the next stage should also be selectable. I click the map, click off the map, and at the same time it fires the hero at a random direction. 3. “Mid-Game” loop drastically makes the game un-fun. Limiting accessory choices to just three drastically makes the game boring. It already doesn’t have a lot of depth, not a good idea to reduce it even more. Has potential, don’t buy it now, wait until they add more to it.
This game is a breath of fresh air! Pay and play once. I came across it while looking for a replacement for Peggle. I’ve been playing it non stop ever since! Keep up the great work!
When you take the time to learn how each character uses their skills, it’s even more fun. If you like peg games, you’ll enjoy this one.
Why did you have to take it off of Apple Arcade?
This game deserves more recognition.
For everyone who loved Peggle. But not for anyone with bad eye sight.
I called Roundguard dangerous when I saw it at last year's PAX West, and now that I've played the full version, I'm standing by that.
