Our Expert Score

76/100

Rook SC is a solid digital adaptation of the classic trick-taking game popular in the South and Midwest. The AI is aggressive, which is exactly what you want in a game of Rook. They don't hesitate to bid high if they have a decent hand, which keeps the tension high during the bidding phase.

The visuals are minimalist, focusing on the cards and the score. It’s very easy to see the 'Rook' bird card and keep track of who has played what. For fans of the physical card game who can't always get four people together for a session, this is a very capable substitute.

Great app. If you are a Rook player, this is a must have. Just needs a few upgrades, but I can't figure out how to email the developer.. 1) needs a way to edit the dealer ( when things get out of sorts) 2) need to be able to review the score once the bidding has started, 3) rare but it does happen - scoring for a renigged hand, and 4) way to edit the bid during the bidding process and not after the bidding is complete (go back button). Don't get me wrong, it is a great app, just needs a little tweaking....

Great idea. Bad execution.

Was excited to see an app that allows you to score rook correctly with the betting system. Was very excited to see it even accommodates the “Baby bird” and “Red 1” versions of the game, but when I tried to use this feature I found it was broken. No matter what you assign the value to this option, it will be scored as 20. It literally has an input field for you to set the value of this card, then it ignores whatever you put in and uses a value of 20. Tried to get help via the developers wiki page but there is literally no way to contact the developer there, and the wiki is full of broken links. If the developers are reading these, I also find it very strange that you can set a call partner, but then when scoring it gives you the option to not score with your partner. Odd that you have to manually tell it each time to count your points together.

Love this app cus I'm too lazy to keep my own score. Love the option to add 1's as 15 because that's how we play. One request tho: sometimes we play to 200. The team with the most books gets 20 points so if there was a way to turn that off and on and then pick the team that gets the most books.. That would get 5 stars from me!

I like it with a couple of upgrades if you could. It needs to be able to undo, back up to previous point and to edit. It is geeky to enter names from the address book but direct entry would be nice also. Last would be playing the version where the 1 counts as 15 for 180 points with start min. bid of 90. (right now any mistake and there is no way to fix it) oh, it doesn't cover penalties for misplay.

Great Update

Great addition to an already solid app. Thanks for adding the ability to play with called partners and 6 players. The interface is very intuitive and easy to learn. The only thing that would be nice to see yet is the ability to track what card was chosen as partner when playing called partners.

Like it but need a update

It is a good app. But if you could and in the option to set what the cards score for that would be great or you could change the biding screen up so I could just enter what the bid is. That would work too. Thanks for the app.

Total points possible in game

I have played rook since I was a kid and we always played with 2 rooks: the rook and black 1. The rook was worth 30 points and the black 1 was worth 20 points for a total of 150 points in a game. I do not see a way to set the scorecard for 150 points without making the black 1 worth 30 points. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? How many points do you play for in a hand?
