Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered is a monumental achievement in JRPG preservation. It takes the quirky, non-linear PS2 classic and polishes it to a mirror finish for mobile. The 'Free Scenario' system is still its biggest draw—you pick one of eight protagonists and the world is truly your oyster. There is no set path, and the world evolves based on your actions (or inactions).
The remaster adds crucial 'Quality of Life' features like a high-speed mode and a mini-map, which make navigating the vast world of Mardias much more enjoyable on a phone. The Glimmer system, where characters learn new skills mid-battle, remains one of the most exciting combat mechanics in the genre. The art style is unique—somewhat like a storybook come to life—and the soundtrack by Kenji Ito is legendary. It’s a deep, complex, and highly replayable RPG that respects the player's intelligence.
Eight unique playable protagonists
Non-linear 'Free Scenario' storytelling
Enhanced high-definition graphics
New 'New Game+' and high-speed modes
Legendary soundtrack by Kenji Ito
The world of SaGa progresses as you win battles. If you find the game getting too hard too fast, try to avoid unnecessary encounters. This keeps your 'Event Rank' lower, allowing you more time to complete story quests before the world-ending threats escalate.
During battle, characters have a chance to 'Glimmer' a new skill when using a basic attack. To increase your chances, use weapons that your character is proficient in and challenge enemies that are slightly stronger than your party.
This version includes new playable characters like Aldora and Schiele, improved graphics, and many UI enhancements for mobile play.
I played this on PS2 it’s the same amazing game I grew up on they definitely need to make a second because I’ve beaten this one like 10 times 😂
Okay so the positives. This game looks and sounds great. The voice acting is good and the artwork is incredible. However there is a huge factor of micro management that goes into this game. If this is your first time playing this game, this game tends to give you information in towns as you progress. That’s not the issue; the issue is is that you have to spend so much time reading so much information on how to learn magic, gain field skills, how to train different job classes and so forth that it is a lot to take in at once. This is one of those cases where I’d much rather play the Super Famicom original instead of the remake.
I have been playing square games since final fantasy one came out, and have played every single FF game excluding MMORPG as they came out. I have never played a game where you were actually punished and stopped from training any characters. Not at all a format I enjoyed. The quality of the game as an app is excellent; but this is no the game for me as a fan of almost all other square games.
Amazing game. Grew up on final fantasy games and these romancing saga games are a breath of fresh air. Please keep bringing more saga games. This is my favorite so far.
This game is nostalgic of the Nintendo 64 era graphics wise. Reminds me of ocarina of time visually. The story is 10/10. The battle mechanics are 10/10. This game is a masterpiece probably on any platform. On IOS, so far the controls are a tad strange but I’ll take it. Good job devs. This game is 10/10 stars.
