We've enabled cross-device saving for Return to Monkey Island. If you purchased the game on iOS and Mac, your progress will sync seamlessly across your devices.
Return to Monkey Island is nothing short of a masterpiece, a love letter to the adventure genre that manages to feel both nostalgic and entirely modern. Ron Gilbert’s return to the series he created brings back the sharp wit, surreal humor, and brilliant puzzle design that made the original games legends. Playing as Guybrush Threepwood again feels like catching up with an old friend—one who is still charmingly incompetent and perpetually adrift.
The transition to mobile is flawless. The 'Point & Click' evolution, featuring context-sensitive interactions and a sleek inventory system, makes the touch interface feel like the way this game was always meant to be played. The art style, while initially controversial to some, is vibrant and full of character, bringing Melee Island and new locations like Brrr Muda to life with incredible detail. The voice acting is top-tier, and the story’s meta-commentary on the search for 'The Secret' is genuinely touching. It’s rare to see a sequel after so many years stick the landing this perfectly, offering a rewarding experience for long-time fans and a perfect entry point for newcomers.

Modernized point-and-click controls for mobile
Context-sensitive interactions and reactive dialog
Full voice acting and iconic musical score
Start by talking to the new pirate leaders at the Scumm Bar. Use the hint book in your inventory if you get stuck on the complex multi-step puzzles required to leave the island.
Use touch controls to interact with the environment. The cursor changes based on context, allowing for seamless dialogue, item collection, and environmental puzzle-solving.
Yes! The game includes a 'Scrapbook' that summarizes previous events and features a 'Casual' mode for those new to adventure game puzzles.
Point-and-click adventures have always been a bit hit-or-miss on console/mobile depending on how much effort the devs put into changing up the controls, so I was a little worried about how this would play on iPad. Very pleasantly surprised as to the result, and I kind of hope that other point-and-click games in the future take note. Everything is very smooth and streamlined, and I didn't come across any of the technical issues noted in older comments, so hopefully those have been fixed. Story-wise, it's classic Monkey Island, with familiar music and top-notch voice-acting. Blasts from the past don't always live up to your memories, but this one did, at least for me.
I played on hard mode and it was wonderful. Everything you love about Monkey Island with some fresh twists. Familiar locations and characters along with some new ones. Lots of fun references to earlier inventory items, challenges, and storyline. It will definitely be a better experience for folks that have played the original games. People complaining about the ending don’t get the reference. It’s actually genius. The graphics and audio are great and the puzzles are the right level of challenging. I never pay this much for apps but, well, it’s Monkey Island!
If you are old enough to remember the classic point and click games like Monkey Island, Police Quest, King’s Quest, Space Quest, and you loved them, this game is for you! What a fun game, I literally couldn’t put it down for 2 days until I solved it. The puzzles are challenging on hard mode, I thought they were good. I cannot speak for easy mode. Definitely recommend this game and hope more are on the way.
This was my first time playing Monkey Island on a mobile app. The experience was seamless, and I didn’t experience any glitches during the run through. The game itself was well paced and the hint book was a nice fall back option. It was fun to interact with both old and new characters. Thank you to the developers for making a nostalgic game!
This was so nostalgic for me as I played a long long time ago. I love the developers note at the end of the scrapbook. I also felt very similar playing as I’m older now. I can’t wait to let my kids have a try. I could not put this down over the last couple days it was super super good. Love love love this, great job and I’ll spread the word as much as I can <3
For mobile games, this is probably the funnest one I’ve ever played. The attention to detail, the graphics, the dialogues, the background music, all done really well. It’s surprisingly challenging and extremely addicting to play. I wish they had more levels or made another game so I can keep on playing.
I had so much fun playing this! I’m part of the old school point and click games played as a kid like the original Monkey Island games, Indiana Jones, even played original Leisure Suit Larry games as soon as they came out. I miss those so much so it was great to see the style is still going! Great graphics, music, story and narration keeping it quirky and fun to play.
Edit2: Three months later and still no fix for the restore option. Meanwhile it now shows up in Apple Arcade for subscribers to play while purchased owners get nothing if they need to restore it on a new device. Perfect way to do business and keep paying customers engaged. Edit: One month later, where is the fix for the restore of past purchases? Is it too late to ask for a refund? Where is the restore option for those of us that purchased the game before it became free to try? Still waiting….
