Punishing: Gray Raven (PGR) is arguably the most technically proficient action-RPG on mobile. Its combat system is a breath of fresh air, moving away from simple button mashing to a '3-orb' color-matching system that forces you to think tactically in the middle of a high-speed hack-and-slash frenzy. The flow of combat is incredibly smooth, with a 'matrix' dodge mechanic that rewards precision timing.
Visually, the game is a cybernetic masterpiece. The character designs (Constructs) are distinct and beautifully animated, and the bleak, post-apocalyptic sci-fi world is rendered with a level of detail usually reserved for console titles. While the gacha mechanics are present, PGR is widely considered one of the most 'f2p-friendly' games in its class due to its generous pity system. If you want a mobile game that challenges your skill and offers a deep, mature story, this is the gold standard.
Next-gen 3D graphics and animations
Unique 3-orb tactical combat system
Deep, mature sci-fi storyline
F2P-friendly gacha and progression
When an enemy flashes red, dodge! A 'Perfect Dodge' triggers Matrix Mode, slowing down time and turning all single orbs into 3-orb combos for a short duration. This is the best time to unleash your most powerful Signature Moves.
Each Construct has a 'Core Passive.' For characters like Lucia: Lotus, matching a red orb immediately after a 3-orb combo of any other color activates her dual-blade state, drastically increasing her attack speed.
Yes, PGR has full controller support for a more console-like experience.
I got the days just 3 days ago so you all might be wondering why I’m commenting so early. Well, first of all: When you first get the game the quality is very low therefore the dialogue is hard to read, I had to skip some dialogue that would have been helpful to me because I had to quickly find the settings to adjust the quality. Second of all: You have to go through the story in order to unlock friend lists and other things. You shouldn’t do this to newly players because you all are basically forcing us to go through with the story, I’m the type of person that would like to check everything in the game in order to get familiarized with it better. And most importantly last and definitely not least: When you first play the game it may or may not give you the option to sync accounts. Ok, so keep in mind you can start the game without doing so. Later on inside the game you might want to save your data by syncing your account. Then when you do sync your account your whole previous data is gone because of that action. Honestly I’m saddened and a bit 😤 about this. I really shouldn’t give this app over an 2 star because of this, why would you erase all of my data just because I synced my other account, If I knew my data was going to be terminated I wouldn’t have done that action. Fix this now, the game isn’t the best already at least give me something to work with. So to all the players to be, please don’t make the same mistake I did, you all don’t deserve what had happened to me. So when you first use an account make sure that’s the account your keeping. Sincerely, SwoftieRawrRawr💕💝
i think there are too many people comparing this game to Mihoyo games not just under the reviews, but from posts I’ve seen on social media. I think you guys should realize before playing this game that if Punishing Gray Raven is about to the your 2nd time playing an RPG after genshin/honkai, then you’ll for sure see some similarities, because the functions of most RPG/MMORPG games are very similar. I’ve had my hands on a variety of RPG games from steam and other platforms, and let me tell you, there are similarities in each and everyone of them. In fact, Punishing Gray Raven differs a lot from Mihoyo’s RPG games compared to other games when it comes to mechanics, playstyle, designs, etc. Before comparing the 2 very differently made games, I encourage you to at least see other RPG games than just Mihoyo’s! But to back up my 5 star review on this game, let me just say that I have not put down my phone for the last 3 hours playing this game. something about the mechanics is so easy to maneuver, and the storyline is really intriguing. Not only that, the difference in each characters’ play style is so charming!! I’ve rarely been hooked onto games lately, but this one kept me glued to my phone. the only problem i have is that after you complete a chapter, it won’t move on straight to the next, but that is a problem i can definitely ignore. So far the game is exciting and fun, but of course we will still look out for future updates that will keep the game enticing!
this game is great, amazing really! The story, peak(as expected from kuro) the character designs, peak, the gameplay, peak. Everything about PGR is wonderful and fun. I have played both wuwa and PGR btw!! Also, this game is most well known for its f2p friendliness which is like how much free stuff there is ig, but yes, it definitely lives up to its name. There is a lot of stuff that would be easier if you spend money but there’s always a way that kuro makes it free or cheaper. Like for coatings (skins) you can get them for free ( only certain coatings tho) of charge by buying the specific currency from the shop in the dormitory! Kuro also has a lot of breathtaking character designs and stories. They’re all diverse and different which makes them so likable! The gameplay…..I’m not kidding when I say this game has THE MOST FUN AND UNIQUE COMBAT GAMEPLAY EVERRRRR!!!!! it’s so satisfying to play each character’s gameplay and see that health bar go down. The ping system and the buffs that some characters give, it’s all so fun! There’s almost never nothing to do on PGR, events everywhere, missions, stimulated battlefield, and other miscellaneous events like crouching cat hidden rat. Anyways, to sum it all up, PGR is a fun, easy game to play, no matter if it’s your first combat game or last, I guarantee you will have so much fun playing it. btw, PGR does take up about 32 gb as of now, so be prepared lol >_<
Hi there, I’ve never wrote a review before but I had to for this game, it’s amazing! The graphics are beautiful and the story is really interesting, I find myself running into battle unprepared to read the lore! This game isn’t for everyone though, and it can be a bit tedious, like if you wanted to get to the next chapter but had to be a certain level. Of course this game will not a appeal to all people, but if you like fun gameplay, well designed characters, and post apocalyptic stories, this is definitely the game for you! I haven’t play as long as some other people but I have played long enough to get the basics, it has really lovely character designs and easy to learn combat (the stigma’s are also really good looking!). The constructs (characters) in the game are really cute or handsome and their play styles are unique! In my opinion, I think it’s a fantastic game! The gacha system is also a lot more generous than some other games like this I play, which I’m so grateful for and it’s completely Free to Play. The only problem I have with it is the instructor system, when I complete my “assignments” for the week they just sit there and I don’t get any stigmas. I think it might be the instructors fault, I don’t really know but other than that this game nearly perfect, I love it and I will definitely continue playing! (*´꒳`*)
gameplay is super fluid once you get the hang of it, on of the things I kind of dislike is the amount of things flashing at you, and the buttons on the home page the game is SUPER free to play friendly, you could do about 4 1:00-2:00 minute battle and you would get enough to get a supply drop, and only 10 supply drops get you a S or A ranker, plus even the starter characters are super powerful, another down side is with leveling up.. sometimes a level could be super hard and you don’t have anything to level yourself up.. your just stuck with under leveled characters until you find a way to get yourself up to a certain level where the level is actually playable (unless you have super ultra godly dodging skills, ignore that) but for now this is coming from a new player and I’m level 30 for commander level, I don’t usually write stuff this long but I felt like it deserved it, thank you for reading. I lost my main account, I was a first-day player, but I made a new one and now I’m lvl 53😒 anyways bye Now I’m in the “end game” part and to be honest, there’s not much to do in this game except play the story, fight, and uhhh upgrade your characters.
You definitely want a controller or play this on Pc because mobile controls are terrible. The combat mechanics are great but the time gating is pretty bad. Events aren't new player friendly at all. While vets can probably clear most of the content new F2P post commandant 50 can’t complete most if the content that requires characters or stuck with doing events that include tower defense (yuck) or fake chess that is really a puzzle. Trying to join a guild can take days to a week. You need to look at the Wiki before playing otherwise you will waste resources on the terrible characters they give you in the beginning. The gacha system is probably one of the better features of the game. The beginner S rank selector gives you characters that are hot garbage with the exception of Liv Luminence so pretty much pick her. There’s no point in investing in the other characters unless you like them but most people wait until using their S-Rank selector but you’re selecting characters that aren’t meta and you WANT meta as F2P. Physical characters are trash so don’t invest in them. It also takes a long time to get a fully invested character and if you don’t do research it can take a long time to get a fully invested team. They majority of memories you get are garbage unless it’s Aife 3-6 and Ike 1-2. There are exceptions when it comes to supports but DPS is more important that the supports. It’s a great game if you love gacha and spend money but if you’re F2P then be prepared for frustration coating with small satisfaction from the gameplay. The gameplay is nice and characters feel great but quickly starts feeling like a chore after commandant 50
Amazing art, sound, visuals, story and gameplay. What else do you need. Since I don’t make a habit of continually pumping money into games, the prices/difference in versions doesn’t concern me much. That being said, If the amount of resources per purchase was a little more, like some say of the other versions, I would be more willing to spend. I’m level 52 with no purchases, 1 SS, and 4 S characters and weapons, and not even close to being done with current content. AND the grind so far has been no grind at all. Plenty of different options to grind, events and character story content that I haven’t been close to being bored. I’m sure leveling will get tougher but I’ve already had a blast. Also so far the amount of free energy refills and gacha pulls has been enough for a decent amount of play time daily. I would like to make one purchase to support but so far nothing makes me want to drop and havent needed to. Anyway a must play if your into anime/gacha as a ftp for a few weeks at the very least. I’m hoping it keeps me going a couple months. We’ll see how the events and new content go. Maybe a “sale” event on cards?
First off thank you kuro games for all your hard work. If your like me at first I wasn’t sure what PGR was beneath the beautiful action combat and sci-fi aesthetic. Well it finally hit me. This is an experience none like other on mobile. The devs respect the players time and best interest. This is a game you can depend on. What do I mean. Well the game always has an event running while simultaneously adding new units through updates to the game and story. Sure there is grind but most of it can be skipped hence the respecting of your time. Maybe at first you will feel overwhelmed but As you get it the game becomes very straight forward. They want you to log in > grow stronger > get challenged and have fun. You can also fact check this bc it blew my mind but for just the monthly pass (5$ a month) you can basically have every new unit that drops. If you skip and save you can even get their weapons etc. I don’t know what else to say but thank you kuro games and to you the reader … give this game a try. Remember games are supposed to be fun and give it some time. Things will click <3
