Various performance improvements, quality of life updates, and bug fixes.
This game would be really successful if the audience didn’t have to pay $5 for a single nest to hatch eggs. Paying for nests is fine, but there are people who play casually and don’t want to spend a large amount of money. If it was $5 for a pack of nests that would be great. And it would be even better if you earned nests on some sort of daily timer. Like 1 nest every 12 hrs for casual players. You’re always going to have players willing to pay, but if you want to grow your audience past hardcore players, then you need to lower the pay to play aspect. There should be a better balance. For people trying to hatch 50 eggs and breed for certain traits, yeah they’re going to pay. But there is an entire audience of children and teens willing to play this game but have no way to pay for nests, or gems to pay for Sundrops. Just change the balance up. You won’t lose your audience within the first day of playing if you just make it more financially accessible. I personally spend money on this game because I enjoy breeding for specific traits, and I am an adult so I have the means. But my 13 year old cousin stopped playing because she can’t enjoy the feeling of hatching a new egg and collecting new Dots. Just listen to your audience. This game would be super marketable if the comments under every video and post related weren’t negative because of the pay wall.
This game has changed so much sense release mostly for the better! Nests are now free and quite easy to get if you have been playing for a little while not to mention how relaxing it is to feed and care for your dots it’s a great way to keep yourself entertained when you’re waiting somewhere or just bored. Hatching new dots is addicting so you can quickly end up with more dots then you can manage which can become a problem but at least having lots of dots is a quick and easy way to level up and insures you never get bored. The chaos traits are a bit of a mixed bag though some of them are really cute and unique and others are just ugly and glitch wildly on screen however if you don’t want any on your dots they are easy to avoid and discovering traits is really fun so overall I think there a good addition to the game! A big shame though is that no more official traits seem to be added along with the archetype contests where fans can submit their ideas it really is a bummer to see that go I hope they continue adding those in the future Oh also the music and sound effects are a nice touch. Overall I really love this game I play it daily and the community’s for it on campfire are lovely I will continue to play and enjoy my adorable little pets! Thanks for reading my review…….YOU CLOD! Ha ha im just kidding! 💚
I love the feel of raising and caring for your dots. Love playing with them, feeding them, teaching them tricks. But there are some massive issues that right now I can’t overlook. The biggest issue is that you need to spend money (and a lot of it!) to get nests to raise more dots. $5 per nest, with only 1 free, is ridiculous when a main draw for this game was to breed and raise multiple dots. Can’t do that without nests, and the only way to get those is spend money. Hard pass. The other issues I have are the bugs in the game itself. It often stops responding or recognizing locations/people/animals and has to be closed and reopened to have the hope that it will recognize things. The forced AR is a battery draining nightmare and while it’s cute to see your dot in your environment it often glitches and disappears or has missing cells. The game has no ability to sense things when it is even remotely dark out (I will often take walks after dark to wind down and I hoped to be able to play with my dot during them). The dots want you to feed them specific foods or play with specific balls, but the random generation of items means you can be searching for a ball type or food for 10 minutes without finding it - and good luck if you need an item from a biome that you can’t currently access. TLDR: Overall I love the idea. The pay to play makes the game unplayable. And the glitches and battery draining aspects are also difficult to manage.
It’s a cute experience that gives me something to twiddle with every so often during the day. The dots are more engaging something like a tamagotchi as they interact with the environment and can even recognize things such as pets and flowers! My two biggest complaints come down to the UI and the hatch a dot system. The interface is really clunky with things buried in menus inside of menus. I feel like every time I was looking for something I had to open up every option every time to find what I was looking for. Information is also very vague in general on how things work, making it even more confusing to find what I’m looking for. The thing that really bugs me is how to get new dots. The only way to hatch new dots it to connect with another player, have enough sun drops, and have a nest. When picking a partner some of the traits are locked and your new dot cannot inherit them until you’re a certain level. At time of writing I’m level 9, and I feel like nothing is unlocked. My first time hatching was almost an exact copy of my original dot! I definitely wouldn’t mind as much if the nests weren’t locked behind a $5 paywall. I’m not above spending money here and there on app games but that’s a lot to shell out every couple days to play half of the game. Overall it’s a silly little time waster but my gripes might outweigh the fun. Plenty of potential if the devs don’t get too greedy like some of their other games.
If you enjoy breeding and caring for cute pets, this game was pretty decent. In the original release, Niantic being Niantic attempted to paywall every hatch, but quickly learned that wouldn’t work. Once they started allowing some free nests (a fair amount even, in my opinion), the game actually became quite pleasant, and it was a fun way to get the kids out to see different parts of our town (go for the on-screen habitat, stay to experience the off-screen point of interest). I was even ok with buying a few supplemental nests to support the game and give the kids some extra hatching fun. That all changed, dramatically and quickly, with this last update. A game that was happily swaddled in cuteness and fun changed to dark and creepy with the addition of feral dots and blight, complete with ominous music. At the same time, the desires of each Dot pet was removed, effectively taking away the most fun part of caring for each one. My daughter went from absolutely loving the game, to being completely creeped out and hating it. While we probably could have just shifted her focus for a bit if it was a temporary Halloween event, instead it sadly is a permanent change. The previous version of the game will be missed, and we will not be playing this depressing version. Hopefully Niantic will quickly realize how much they’ve alienated family players by this change of tone.
This game looks and appears so beautiful and unique however after reading the comments in the groups from beta testers it has changed tremendously from that version. I’ve played PoGo since day 1, I now have been playing this since day 1 as well in hopes Niantic will help create a way to not make this all about money. A nest to breed one is far too expensive, and there needs to be something additionally added to help with xp gain, it seems to level up quite slowly and could use some additional missions. Being in AR mode all the time also drains the battery so much, there needs to be a “playroom” or something to that effect created so you don’t have to be in it all the time. Maybe even a way to save your favorite habitat in 360 view so your dot can have all that play room in case you can not leave your house that day etc. a feature to assist in re-rolling your eggs somehow via sun drops or gems would be great but the ability to highlight the ones you’re most desiring even if it’s only one option would be really nice. So many people are wanting specifically 1 thing more than others plus it would prompt more breeding to finally acquire your ultimate dot if it’s only 1 benefit at a time added to each version, heck even paying gems or sundrops to keep a feature and choosing multiples would be a great option during breeding. I look forward to watching this game develop and become something great it has so much going for it.
Peridot seemed like a good game but by time I was less then 10 minutes in I realized that the nests meant to breed peridots were locked behind a paywall of 4.99, and that the “nest fragments” that existed in the beta were no more, and with just the 1 nest given out of pity for the player I decided to keep playing, but little did I know it only got worse, with some traits of peridots being behind levels far into the 30s I felt like I was getting spit at, trying to find a small bit of hope I reached out to other players nearby me but was only met with radio silence until nearly 3 days had passed, finally after 5 days of playing the game I was finally able to breed a peridot, but with a astronomical cost of about 1,337 gems to unlock the two star and three star traits behind a level lock I found myself unwilling to continue playing, this game had tons of potential despite having the model of most nft scams, and I wouldn’t have minded the scam like micro transactions if ordinary players had at least the ability to have more then 2 peridots, however with no ability to even do that I ultimately lost any hope I had for this game lasting more then a year, without major changes in the gameplay and the core structure of earning Peridot might as well just shut the stables doors and throw out the key. Also it’s been pretty clear most of the 4+ reviews are bots so u might never even play with someone else nearby.
This game is incredibly adorable. It has incentivized me to get out and exercise or just simply enjoy nature. I’ve been playing it nonstop since I downloaded the app (30+ day login bonus streak currently). There is quite a lot of love and passion put into this game and it is clear to see! However, I simply cannot recommend it to anyone in its current state. As of now the main draw / feature advertised to folks is breeding new Peridots to unlock rarer traits and cuter “dots” as they call them. The problem lies in the fact that there is no feasible way to obtain nests through in-game play. I’ve completed all of my dailies, weeklies, dot’s desires, login bonus… nothing! You only get one nest to start off with so you can hatch one new dot beyond the default one you chose at the beginning. If you do wish to pursue hatching dots regardless of not being able to obtain them with in-game methods you’ll have to spend $5.00 USD per nest. That doesn’t sound like a whole lot but it will certainly add up quick. There should always be an option for folks to buy extra nests on the shop if they want to — but I will not be spending money for each individual time I want to try breeding a new Peridot. If you just want a single (or two) pocket pet(s), this game is for you. Please don’t expect to be able to breed more Peridots like the advertisements imply unless you’re willing to open your wallet.
