Our Expert Score

91/100

Old Friends Dog Game is pure visual comfort food. At a time when mobile simulation games are often cluttered with predatory timers and stressful energy mechanics, this title focuses entirely on warmth, empathy, and serene gameplay. The fact that it is based on a real-life sanctuary in Mount Juliet, Tennessee gives every character interaction a deeply authentic feel.

The core loop—baking treats, decorating rooms, petting resident pups, and snapping photographs for your scrapbook—is delightfully low-stress. Watching your senior dogs interact with new toys or rest on cozy beds you selected creates an immense sense of satisfaction. The art style is soft and charming, complemented by relaxing sound design.

Beyond its gameplay achievements, the game deserves immense credit for its real-world impact. Knowing that playing supports actual senior dogs looking for forever homes adds a level of heart that few games can match. It is an absolute must-play for dog lovers and cozy gaming enthusiasts alike.

Praise for Old Friends!

I got this game a long time ago and have been playing everyday ever since! It’s the type of game that you might get bored of if you play for like three hours, but like thirty minutes a day is amazing. I would consider myself a dog crazy person and the fact that I can take care of cute dogs with great graphics is so cool! I’ve downloaded a lot of other dog games, but none of them compare to how wonderful this game is. The only thing I would change about the game is that it can get annoying to wait that long for a new dog, but I get that it wouldn’t be good in the end because the game would go so fast. I would definitely recommend this game to other dog lovers and to people who would just like a fun game to play. The only other thing I would change is to just have more dogs because I’ve already gotten every dog you can get, so possibly just a few new dogs. But like I said I absolutely adore this game, and I play it ALL THE TIME!!! One of my fav dogs is Sharks the dachshund and I own a dachshund in real life so I love having all those different breeds. I would love to read a book about this, like how there is a girl who has a senior dog center and has these friends like Louise and Joshua, and it tells the stories of each dog and such…😜😅😂 I don’t know I guess that’s just the writer in me. But totally just download this game and if it’s not for you, then you can delete it. But if it is for you, keep playing it!!

Cute, fun, and easy

I just got this game and it’s already so much fun I love how each dog is different. Me and my little brother love playing this easy game you can do so much! when I was reading the reviews for one of my favorite games(bunny haven) I read that another player enjoyed this game ( by the same company) I tried it out and it’s so much fun! I can’t put my phone down. This game is also very easy and you can design your sanctuary the way you want. I especially love doing the story plays. it’s so cute when the dogs lay down or go in other cute positions. There is pretty much nothing I would want to change about this game! Some thing I would add though is possibly aSimulation mode where you can be the dog! This game is really great and I’d love to see more games like it with possibly other animals. Another thing I think would be really fun to add is maybe having backstories for the dogs also if some of the dogs came in with injuries like needing prosthetic legs, having broken bones or some other big problems. Other than those few things, this game is pretty much perfect! I would consider myself a dog person and animal lover so seeing these adorable, realistically animated dogs is so much fun I love being able to take care of them, interact with neighbors, and simply just take care of dogs need. I highly recommend this game to any other dog and animal lovers out there.🐕‍🦺

Old Friends, Blossoming Happiness

Hello!!! I got this game about 1-2 years ago, loved it! I dont use it of play it as much as before, but it still sets good memories with the senior dogs. But i feel like i started getting less connected when (for me) it started to get harder. I mean if i remember right, you baked biscuits, fed and petted the dogs and then they were content! It started to get a bit boring to me i guess, as someone who has ADHD i really did love the game at first! But then i got a bit depressed, and soon visited the dogs less and less. Also, i was very disappointed when i got to the last dog we could foster/adopt. I think it was Sharky or something, but i really did want to keep going. I think it kept me more motivated when i knew there was still a pup that needed a home. And the events and updates were nice, but it was still baking biscuits. I wish there was more to the game. And i also (vividly) remember when i reached the full friendliness status for some of the dogs (Bagel, Mack etc). I really enjoyed interacting with their stories of such! But i must say, i was a BIT impatient with the stories. “No matter what i do, all i think is you. Even with my boo, y’know im crazy over you.” -Kelly Rowland (Nelly’s Dilemma) Anyways loved the game! Pups and kisses from, Yours Truly!

Adorable with an AMAZING concept

I love the concept of teaching younger audiences that old dogs are still worth adopting even though they won’t live as long as puppies or younger dogs. That’s a huge issue in modern society and no one wants them anymore even though they’re so perfect. I have a geezer myself and he’s still as lively as a puppy (as lively as a grumpy old curmudgeon of a lap dog can be at least). I love that the dogs are shown to have so much personality despite being old and I LOVE that they’re based off real life senior dogs that have been cared for and shown immense amounts of love despite being old. I would love to join the foster program for OFSDS if i didn’t live in an apartment. I only deducted a star because it’s a pain to level the dogs up to the next story point.. I love repetitive games (I’ve been playing magikarp jump every day for nearly a year), don’t get me wrong, but because the point threshold for getting to the next chapter increases SO much with each level, it feels like I’m making little to no progress unless I leave the dogs alone for several hours for points to accumulate, and I don’t like doing that. Repetitive games are only fun to continually play when there’s some variation in the repetition and there’s more things to do while waiting. Other than that it is so adorable and I love the idea and the art style and how easy it is to get coins. :)

The Most Wholesome Game

At first I thought this game was going to be your typical pay to win game. However, I was completely wrong about that. As soon as I open the game I was created with a very addictive song that was both upbeat and wholesome. Oh I love the idea that this game is solely based on a true life sanctuary for older dogs. The amount of cute name options for your sanctuary is amazing as well as having your own motto. I love all the activities you can do in this game like bake treats, do live streams, take requests, and “text people” while getting rewarded. I also adore the donation factors and one of my favorite things about this game is having a story for each individual dog. It’s so cute it really is and adore reading the information about each dog and I just started this game I’m only level two but it is amazing. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves animals or loves dogs and just wants to start playing a cute game. I want to say that this is probably one of my favorite games that I’ve found in a while. I personally have a dog myself and I’m worried about her getting older, but this game is definitely comforting and I really appreciate this being made it’s a wonderful game and I highly recommend it to anyone.

most comforting game ever

the whole concept of it is amazing and exactly how we should be pursuing projects. supporting them with real life actions! it feels awesome to know that this game is inspired by an actual shelter for old doggo friends. and the design of the game itself is awesome, it’s simple, not too overly complicated, and has a really cute visuals. the dogs have cute designs and i love how each of them is different and you can look through their personalities, “post pictures” of them and see their real life counterpart. also the fact that there’s a wholesome plot just adds even more to this! you don’t have to pay anything to advance in the game really, you can work towards it on your own and if you do want to maybe treat yourself to spending a few bucks on something, it’s affordable and worth it to see one of your friends wearing a cute outfit and having personalized items. it also has little challenges and events and just… WOW. an awesome little game and extremely comforting with a good story and message, elders need love too! <3 please download and play this, it’s honestly given me a lot of comfort and it’s the only game i really have on my phone.

Love the concept, but feels very repetitive

I really wanted to like this game. I open it here and there hoping I’ll like it eventually but sadly I just do not. It caused me to find and enjoy both the butterfly and moth games by this dev which I love both of now, so that was nice, but as someone who adopted a senior cat we only got to enjoy the company of for four short but wonderful years, I was expecting to completely love this game. Instead it just felt really limiting that there’s only three real interactions with the pets and that pretty much is the bulk of the game, with the leveling system requiring doing those three interactions rapidly in a timed event. I absolutely hate the leveling system and pretty much avoid leveling because I don’t want to do a timed event in a game that is in no way an action oriented game. I open your other games to relax, but this one isn’t relaxing thanks to the leveling up system. I like to read the dog stories, but the rest of the game to get to them isn’t very fun, and I say that as someone who has spent money on the game purely because I wanted to express my appreciation for the concept, even if I am not really that fond of the end results. I wish the game had one solid fun to play mini game or something that wasn’t the level up system or cleaning up after the pets.

BEST DOG GAME EVER!

This game is the cutest dog game I have ever played! I love the dogs you can get and the individual personalities as well as the cool little stories for each dog! My fav dog is prob Bagel, he’s so chill and cute! 🥰 I like the little bake-off events and I love petting the dogs and giving them toys and treats. I also like decorating the little sanctuary and dressing up the dogs! They are already adorable but can you guess how much cuter they get when you put a little hat on them?! 😍 (You don’t even know..) I also like leveling up and collecting photos! My iPhone storage is literally full of pictures from this game. 😅 I have recommended this game to many of my friends and I recommend it to anyone who likes dogs! It is the best stress reliever game I have played! And even better it is based off a real sanctuary and real dogs!! 🐶😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Literally the only suggestion I have is to make things a little less expensive. But if the money is contributing to real dogs then still have things cost real money!!! I am all for that! Just maybe, a little cheaper. 😉 Have a great day and thanks for reading! 😊 Edit: Why did you add pride stuff? 😢 Please don’t support a mental illness called Gender dysphoria… That’s not what they need. May you be cured of this and feel better soon. ❤️
