I have so much fun every time I play this game, it’s the perfect deck building-rogue like for mobile! I was looking for a mobile Slay the Spire substitute and this is honestly an even more enjoyable experience since you can take it with you everywhere you go. I think all of the 1 star reviews for this game are completely unfair because nearly all of them are based on 1) payment issues which have since been patched and handled by the dev team who does great work or 2) complains that it’s a “rip off” of Dream Quest by Peter Whalen. If you actually looked, there is an envelope on the main page of the game that explicitly states that they got permission from Peter himself to collaborate and recreate Dream Quest. And they did an amazing job! The game looks absolutely amazing, with voice lines for *every!* interaction, which is impressive. I genuinely have no complaints for this game, and for anyone wondering, the in-app purchases are two DLC classes, a card magician and an apothecary, both $.99 and (since i love this game so much) definitely worth it. Hopefully this review does the game enough justice to convince anyone on the fence about getting it, but if it hasn’t...this game is 1 (one) dollar!! You would have to be an absolute mad man to read this far in the review and at least not TRY this gem of a $.99 mobile game. Best of luck to anyone getting the game :)
The game itself is pretty fun, there are some minor translation errors but aside from that it’s a pretty good game. Some of the bosses and other monsters can be frustratingly hard, and a couple classes are harder than other’s, but it ended up being a lot of trail and error for me until I found the right/easiest set-up. Basically you want to select the ranger class and go for a Poison/Action deck, remove your red damage cards ( but take the red poisons)when you get a chance, I usually just take out one or two at the selfless town. Raise Action power every time you get a chance, and raise max health now and then too. You want to pick up cards like Venom/Bleeding/Motivation/Agility/Fatal injuries/Infection/Residual Shadow/Focus/Imitation/Sidekick/Sprint/Recycle and grab a destruction or another equipment buster type card, because you’ll need at least one. The goal here is to continue drawing tons of cards while gaining action power and dropping tons of poison on your opponents. I usually will copy a sprint or agility after I finish grabbing all the apples for the witch. I’ve won pretty much every time I’ve gone with this set up. I always skip all red damage cards besides infection. Also, if you see it and can grab it, boots of speed, longbow and ghost blade run really well in this deck. Anyway hope you give it a try and have fun!
This is such an amazing rogue-like for mobile. In a way this game makes me sad because it makes every other mobile game I’ve played look like garbage. Very well fitting music lots of secrets just a like a good rogue-like should have but they all make sense and you don’t have to look up guides to figure them out. This game is very under appreciated and far surpassed my expectations. If I had to give any advice to developers it would be that I think this game should be free. I have no problem paying and I bought all the DLC and I think it is worth so much more than $0.99. However I think once you play this game it is so good that the dlc is really compelling and if more people got it then it would probably be more money in the long run. But I’m sure you guys have analytics or whatever and have thought about this. There were just a few typo’s on some of the card descriptions. Lastly I’m not sure how you intended this to work but some of the red hood dlc card when played on the normal game don’t seem to work perfectly. I got a card the gave me gold when I played cards that haven’t been played “this game” but this didn’t seem to work. Overall extremely minor nit-picks and this is the best $0.99 I ever spent
This game is actually great. I’m a HUGE roguelike deckbuilder fan and was looking for something to play on iOS that wasn’t a game I could already play on PC or Switch and saw this recommended. I was a bit hesitant because the majority of mobile games I’ve played that aren’t direct ports of preexisting games are usually paywalled, but I was happy to learn that all the in app purchases for this game are purely expansive and you don’t need to spend another cent on top of the base price to get the full experience. After realizing this, I happily bought all the dlc characters (and they’re also great). The game itself is exactly what I want out of a mobile deckbuilder: it’s light enough that I can play it during downtime, but has enough depth to keep my interest. There’s enough new and exciting things happening here that it feels fresh, and isn’t trying to cash in on the deckbuilder craze, but is recognizing its roots and trying to do something different and push the genre in a genuine way. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s novel and fun and definitely worth the asking price. The hysterical translations just add to the charm.
I am a person who just started playing these types of deck-building games, having tried around seven of them. This one is easy enough for a person who is familiar with general gaming to learn, yet it is not juvenile in the slightest! I am still learning more game features as I write this review, and I am loving it! It is also challenging. You have to be strategic when choosing which cards to play. I love how the main screen isn’t full of too many icons for offers junking up the screen. It is also quite beautiful. The scripts are witty and this helps you get into the fairytale mindset while it immerses you into the game. I am in heaven with this one! I haven’t had to spend a dime, but this is one of those games that makes you so happy that you want to contribute to keep this magic alive! I will definitely make purchases and I won’t regret it because this game can give you hours of entertainment. This is the game I’ve been waiting for. Sincerely, Just a normal gal from Iowa, small town, USA
I love this game and think it’s extremely addictive and fun. I’ve been playing it for years now. However, I’ve noticed there’s an issue with translating some of the storyline/dialogue to English. Recently they’ve come out with a new character “Little Pig Monster” and most of the game is story based, which you have to read through. It’s super cute and I can tell the story is meant to be funny and lighthearted but it’s been very clearly translated by someone who did not proofread the English version. Its incomprehensible. It literally does not make sense and it’s sort of upsetting because I paid for this. I’m not sure if they used google translate or AI but the script is sloppily put together (NOT the voice acting, just the written parts). If it was part of the free trial I wouldn’t care, but for a paid character I feel like they should have put more effort in translating. I understand the game is originally in Chinese but they shouldn’t release the character internationally until it’s properly completed and comprehensive, especially because you have to pay for it. I’ll update the review if they fix the translation issue tho because the game is honestly so fun.
First I wanna say that this is my favorite mobile game ever. I loved it so much I bought their most expensive collectors dlc on my iPhone eight. At the time I signed in with Facebook. When I switched to a new iPhone 11 none of my purchase history could be recovered, despite signing in with the same Facebook account as before. I looked past that and decided to keep playing. I finished everything available in the base game, then deleted it. Today I decided to download it again, and even though I was already signed in, it kept giving me error messages in a language I don’t speak. I checked the settings to make sure I had set them to English, and it was on English. The help button also displayed a language I don’t know. So I screenshot them and used the google lens translate. It said something about national regulations in January of 2020 (two years ago) and that I had to enter a real-name and ID number. I have absolutely zero clue what that is, and signing out didn’t help anything, because it gave me the same error messages in the same language. I’m very frustrated because this game was a lot of fun, and is absolutely my favorite mobile game of all time, but now it’s virtually unplayable. I deleted the game and will download it again to see if it works, but at this point I doubt it.
I easily sunk hundreds of hours into this game, it has multiple fun game modes with multiple characters to make each run unique with overall fun mechanics. While I thought the gameplay felt a bit derivative to other card games like Slay the Spire at first, it has enough unique features and mechanics for it to stand out as well as great art style and music. There are a few small issues that do pile up. English translation is not very good, sometimes you can’t decipher what the text actually means and sometimes it’s just outright incorrect. While the game isn’t designed to be as intense and difficult as some roguelikes, the balancing does feel a bit all over the place; some powers or cards fee inconsequential, while others single handedly win every fight. Despite all that, still incredibly fun with some really unique and interesting mechanics. With multiple game modes like Wishing Night it’s well worth the money to unlock more gameplay.
