Heck Deck is one of the most inventive genre-mashes I've played in years. It takes the frantic action of a 'bullet hell' shooter and fuses it with the tactical pacing of a card-based deckbuilder. The genius move here is that time only moves when you move. This turns what would be a chaotic screen of projectiles into a thoughtful, turn-based strategy game.
Every 'card' in your hand represents a different weapon or defensive move, but they also cost health to use. This creates a fascinating risk-reward loop where you have to decide if it's worth taking a hit to clear a screen or if you can dodge through the rain of bullets using precise movement. The lo-fi art style is charming and keeps the screen readable despite the dozens of objects flying around. It’s a must-play for anyone who thinks they’ve seen everything the mobile puzzle/action genre has to offer.
Unique time-stopping mechanics
Over 30 different cards to master
Challenging boss encounters
Charming hand-drawn art style
When the screen is covered in bullets, stop moving! This allows you to look at your cards and plan a route that minimizes damage. Use your 'Slash' cards to destroy projectiles in your immediate path.
You collect cards by 'buying' them with your health. Only pick up cards that synergize with your current deck—sometimes dodging a card is smarter than picking it up.
Yes, it features procedural elements and permadeath, requiring you to master the mechanics to make it to the end.
It’s such a good game I bought for pc as well. Just simple fun. From what I’ve played there have been no glitches. I would suggest making a binder or “collection” menu to see what each card does it can get a bit confusing to remember what each card does. It would be cool to see what the cards do and cute little description attached to it.
Totally my fault for thinking that it was like SNKRX, should of read into it a bit more. The superhot style it has going on is not my cup of tea and the only way to get cards is to get hit by cards and lose health, feels really repetitive to me and not good repetitive like other roguelite-likes. Once again, my fault for not looking into it more so I will not give the 3 stars I think it is, the reviews are very positive so take my negative review with a tiny grain of salt.
Very fun game but it’s hard to remember what all the cards do. Also I think it would be cool if you added a endless mode where you select a zone and you play until you run out of hearts.
So basically I was scrolling randomly on the AppStore and saw this and thought it was super cool so I bought it, and OH. MY. GOD DO I LOVE THIS GAME! But I might have a suggestion, maybe think about making some tutorial if that’s fine. No pressure. Other than that this game is so fun! -Tod
I like this game because it makes losing fun. Every time I die, I will willingly sacrifice myself to learn what a new card does. Also just, I love stressful, but fun games! This one hit the spot. Thank you developers.
Unique game that plays great on an iPad and iPhone. So clever how time freezes and you can catch your breath.
Great game, I love that you have controller support BUT it’s pretty much pointless bc you can only play in portrait mode 😞. Please add a landscape mode so I can play on my iPad Pro with a controller 🙏🏼
I like this too much!!! can’t wait to write a review on it. the music jives with me so freaking well!
