Improved compatibility with certain controllers for a better gameplay experience.
Harvest Moon: Skytree Village makes its way to iOS, bringing the 3DS classic's signature blocky terraforming and cozy farming loops to mobile screens. For fans of traditional life simulation games, the core loop remains comforting and familiar: clearing land, planting crops, tending to livestock, and interacting with the local villagers. The standout mechanic here is undoubtedly the terraforming feature, which lets you reshape the terrain by digging rivers, building hills, and managing soil elevation. Experimenting with elevation and seasonal changes to unlock crop mutations adds a satisfying layer of depth to what would otherwise be a straightforward farming simulator.
However, the mobile port is not without its flaws. The transition from physical controls to touchscreen inputs feels clunky at times, and lingering UI issues—such as tutorial prompts occasionally referring to handheld button layouts—can break immersion. Graphically, while the colorful art style and cute character designs translate reasonably well, the environmental assets show their age. Nevertheless, for gamers seeking a classic, relaxed farming experience with plenty of content to sink their teeth into on the go, Skytree Village offers a nostalgic hit despite its minor technical rough edges.
Land terraforming allowing players to shape soil, waterways, and elevation
Seven main Skytrees to revive across the main storyline
Crop mutation system based on soil conditions and seasons
Diverse livestock including cows, sheep, horses, and Poitou donkeys
Rich cast of marriage candidates and town residents with unique request storylines
Begin by cleaning up your farm plot and speaking with the Harvest Sprites. Collect key materials, grow crops, and complete request quests from local villagers to gradually revive all seven legendary Skytrees and bring the Harvest Goddess back to full power.
Use your tools to modify the elevation and soil quality of your farmland. Experiment with planting crops at different altitudes, moisture levels, and seasons to unlock unique crop mutations and higher-yield harvests.
Shape the environment around you by modifying terrain height, creating water pathways, and tilling soil to design your ideal farm setup.
Interact daily with the townspeople of Skytree Village, complete their requests to boost affection levels, and court potential bachelors or bachelorettes to start a family.
Crop mutations are discovered by planting specific seeds at varied land elevations, under specific soil moisture conditions, and during particular seasons.
This is my first time playing Harvest Moon: Skytree Village, and so far I’m really enjoying it. The graphics are adorable, and the characters are charming and likable. One downside I’ve noticed is the number of typos in the dialogue. For example, when Dean teaches you how to fertilize flowers, he says “knwo” instead of “know.” The tutorial could also use some proofreading and updating. Since I’m playing on my phone, it should display touchscreen controls instead of controller inputs. For example, when you first speak to the Harvest Sprite during the tilling tutorial, it correctly explains which buttons to tap on the screen. However, if you talk to the Sprite again for a refresher, it switches to controller instructions and tells you to press the A and B buttons instead, which is confusing for mobile players.
It’s honestly appalling how bad this game is. The controls, UI, and graphics all make this seem like a low-effort asset-flip or shovelware game. Ay $7.99 for this mobile game, Natsume should really be embarrassed with this delivery. As a longtime enjoyer of the Harvest Moon games on console, I feel this is an affront to their legacy, and a blatant cash grab. 0/10
