Hardwood Empire is the game college hoops fans have been waiting for on iOS. It captures the 'madness' of the college season perfectly without burying the player in microtransactions. The recruiting trail is the star of the show; there’s a genuine sense of accomplishment when you finally land a 5-star recruit for a mid-major school.
The developer is clearly a fan of the sport, as the simulation logic feels very realistic. You’ll see upsets, breakout stars, and heart-breaking losses in the tournament just like in real life. The interface is clean and data-heavy, making it easy to track your players' growth over their four-year careers. If you miss the classic college basketball games of the past, this is the modern successor you've been looking for. It’s deep, challenging, and endlessly replayable.
Deep recruiting system with thousands of unique prospects
Full season simulation with box scores and awards
Community-driven updates and active Reddit support
Focus your recruiting 'points' on players that fit your system. A 'Run and Gun' offense needs fast guards, while a 'Post-Up' style requires elite big men.
During the game, you can adjust your defensive pressure and offensive tempo. Slowing down the game can help a weaker team upset a powerhouse.
Yes, Dynasty mode allows you to play through 20+ years of program history.
Hardwood Empire is one of the most enjoyable mobile games I have played in a long time. It stands out because it actually feels like the creator cares about both the game and the players. You can tell a lot of time and effort has gone into building something that is fun, smooth, and constantly improving. The gameplay is addictive in a good way. It is easy to pick up but still has enough depth to keep you coming back. Everything feels well thought out, from the progression system to the overall design. It does not feel like a rushed or copy-paste game. It feels original and polished. What really separates this game from others is the developer. The creator clearly listens to the community and takes feedback seriously. Updates come out consistently, and they actually improve the game. That is rare on the App Store. Most games get abandoned or only updated for monetization, but this one keeps getting better. I also appreciate how responsive the creator is. You can see community suggestions being implemented over time, which makes you feel like your voice matters as a player. That kind of connection builds trust and makes you want to keep supporting the game. If I had one request, I would love to see a “God Mode” added in the future. It would give players more control and open up new ways to enjoy the game, especially for those who like experimenting or building without limits. Based on how the developer listens to feedback, I think it is something that could realistically happen. Overall, Hardwood Empire is a great game made by an even better creator. It is fun, well maintained, and clearly built with care. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a game they can stick with long term.
If like me, you are looking for a successor to Campus Dynasty with a dev that still exists. This appears to be it. It’s early and there are things to fix and things to tune. But the dev is busy doing just that. There are a lot of other CBB sims out there. But none offer the “must-haves” when it comes to sims that Hardwood empire appears to emphasize. League history, Goat lists, stats, good recruiting, player development is improving with every update, complexity and different ways to be successful. It’s early, but the game appears to be everything you want from a long term sports sim.
This game is awesome. I've basically done everything there is to do in campus dynasty and this is the perfect game to play next. My only issue is that sometimes it doesn't matter how much of a lead I have on a recruit, they'll still go somewhere else. I understand that this is to make it harder to cheese recruiting, but when I'm recruiting a point guard from my home state, and he has 76% interest on my school, but still commits to Spokane anyways even though they had 6% interest is a little annoying.
I only started playing a few days ago but I’m already really enjoying it. The recruiting, building your roster, and trying to turn a college program into a contender is really fun. It feels like a true college basketball simulator instead of just a basic sports game. The depth is great and it’s easy to get invested in your team and see how your program develops over time. Definitely worth trying if you like college basketball or management-style sports games.
I’ve played about every CBB game on the App Store and this one is already one of the most complete, even being only a few days old. It does have its bugs and minor QOL issues to sort through, but the developer seems to have a genuine love for it with super quick updates and is community-focused. I’m really excited to see where this game goes and so happy that someone has brought a fresh take to CBB!
Great game, the most detailed I’ve seen. The app creator is clearly very passionate about this. Constantly updates, implements user feedback. Reddit link in app very useful. Game often compared to Campus Dynasty. Better/deeper version. Campus Dynasty is simpler and quicker if you prefer that. I feel this may eventually add a “lite” mode to compete. Can only imagine where this app will go. Sky is the limit.
Idk if it’s me But imo the recruiting system is bad, the first dynasty I used, Manhattan (I’m pretty sure) I did decent at recruiting but I’m using Tuscaloosa and recruiting’s been annoying. I recruited 3 players I was in the lead for going into game 29 and every single one went somewhere else. Every one of them was in the mid to low 70 overalls, so idk if the recruiting depends on the overall of the team. But this game is great, better than ALOT of mobile CBB games, the sim is cool, and how the mm bracket is set up. Def gets 4/5, will recommend
I am eating this game up. It’s everything you want in a CBB sim. Much simpler than Draft Day Sports which I appreciate. Only thing I don’t love so far is that I have never won a game in the NCAAT as a lower seed even when I’m rated more highly. I typically lose by double digits each time. Wish there were more chances to upset the higher seed
