The Easter update has arrived!
Enter the decorated Halls and claim your seasonal rewards before they vanish.
Halls of Torment is exactly what I wanted from the 'bullet heaven' genre. While many games go for a flashy, neon look, this game embraces the gritty, brown, and dark aesthetic of late-90s PC RPGs. It feels like playing a lost Diablo expansion that turned into a survival game.
The progression is what keeps me coming back. The quest system is brilliant—it gives you specific goals beyond just 'survive for 30 minutes,' like killing a certain number of enemies with a specific skill. Completing these unlocks permanent buffs and new characters, making each run feel productive even if you die.
The mobile port is excellent. The auto-aim works well for casual play, but you can still take manual control for precise targeting. It’s the kind of game that’s perfect for a quick session but has enough depth that you’ll look up and realize you’ve been playing for three hours. A must-have for survival fans.
Authentic 90s pre-rendered art style
Over 10 playable characters with unique traits
Quest-based meta-progression system
Hundreds of items and diverse ability trees
Full support for Cloud Saves and Controllers
Prioritize 'Experience Gain' traits early in a run. This allows you to level up faster and stay ahead of the enemy difficulty curve. Don't forget to send items back to the surface via the Wellkeeper to unlock them permanently.
Focus on 2 or 3 compatible abilities rather than trying to take everything. For example, combining fire-based skills with burn-enhancement traits can melt bosses in seconds.
While the core 'survivor' loop is similar, Halls of Torment features more tactical movement, character aiming, and a heavy 90s ARPG aesthetic.
Great game, I pre ordered because I already knew I’d like this game and I gotta say it is worth the money. The only thing I was going to gripe about was that when I tried to flip my phone you couldn’t get the game to switch switch screens but that has now been fixed. I’ve honestly never seen a dev update a phone game so fast but they’ve fixed a lot of the issues and I hope that from here on out we still keep getting updates to the game, Quality of life stuff— maybe new items, new content to keep people engaged or maybe even a DLC that adds a new roster of characters, new enemies, new bosses— you get the point.
Lemme start by saying that this game has some serious potential. It just needs some more work. Visually, it could be crispier. It’s glitchy here and there but not enough to ask Apple for my $5 bucks back. Im not experiencing a problem with the font being unreadable like some people are claiming to experience. Im playing on an iPhone 15 pro. I will say, in some cases there are times where the Dynamic Island blocks some of the text shown on that side of the screen. But even that isn’t that big of a deal. I’m also not experiencing the screen not flipping. The screen works just fine when I play on my g8 Galileo. I do recommend playing with a controller. There’s one issue with that though… Even while playing with a controller, the touch analogs still appear on left and right sides of the screen. Not game breaking but just annoying. This game is like if Diablo, Brotato and Hades bumped uglies and had lil baby. And I like that a lot. All in all, It’s fun a game and that’s all that matters, foreal. And with frequent updates, this game could be 5 stars; easy. Dare I say the best game in the whole App Store…? I’m talkin to you Dev’s
This game is absolutely amazing. I love it. It’s addicting, dark The music is great. I just wish it had a couple of UI adjustments in the menu like the ability to hide the on screen controls when a controller is plugged in or connected via USB and UI scaling elements so that some of the menus aren’t cut off by the camera cut out in the iPhone also would love to have control over the resolution and scaling because I know it could look a lot more beautiful on the iPhone screen. I also wish there was a way to match the screen, resolution, and aspect ratio on the MacBook it would make it a lot more immersive instead of having black bars on the edges and last, but not least hopefully in the future, we get cross save compatibility from iPhone to Mac. That would be amazing. I know the last one is probably hard but if they fix all the UI elements, I give it a five out of five.
Great fusion of old school classic Diablo and vampire survivors! One of the main reasons I picked this up besides being a fan of both previously mentioned games is the manual attack option which set this game apart from its peers. Unfortunately, the manual attack controls seem to be broken and only work randomly. It seems to stop working especially after leveling up and I have to stop moving the character and spin both levers around until they (hopefully) start attacking again. When it get real bad, I just switch back to auto attack which works fine, but isn’t my favorite method of attack. This is a shame as the option for a manual attack function is so cool and really sets this game apart making it not just another auto attack survival clone. Anyway, overall fantastic game. Devs, please fix the manual attack function! Thank you!
Love this game on PC as well, definitely worth the money. Game itself I would give 5 stars, only a couple things to point out with the port. Damage flash intensity seems a bit off, and the slider in settings is not working for me. I never really noticed it on the pc but maybe it seems worse on a smaller screen. It would be nice to have the option to make that more subtle There’s an option in iOS to hide the dock or home bar while using the app. I much prefer the bar being more transparent and less noticeable. You also have to swipe up twice to exit the app which would be nice in a game like this Last criticism is if you completely close out of the app there’s no way to continue your run as far as I can tell. Not an issue on PC since I am sitting there with time and intent to play. If I’m playing on my phone it’s because I’m away from my home/pc and carving out 30 minutes isn’t always an option Overall the game is amazing, preordered it cause I knew it would be a great game for iOS. I will change my review to 5 stars if things like I mentioned are polished a little. Keep up the good work!
The game plays well for me on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, but there are some things I hope the devs will consider adding. Number one, portrait mode. I don’t mind landscape, but I know MANY people do and even I would be playing it a lot more in portrait if that was an option. I know this is unlikely to come, but a man can dream. Next, an option for non pixelated text. It can be blurry at times and hard to read. I also heard some people have issues on iPads and with some controllers (the game doesn’t rotate with the screen). Other than that it’s been a lot of fun so far.
This is my jam. Nothing beats the loot drop nostalgia of Diablo II but also nothing beats the first time you survive 30 mins in a round vampire survivors. Both things are true-ish here. The is the classic visuals of Diablo and the “I survived” element of “VS” along with some lite loot elements. Not enough to fully envoke the random and wonderful, lootiful name of “Diablo” in my opinion but still so much fun. I am here for it. Keep molding and changing the genre lines as much as you want in these wonderful and creative ways, please. I will play it and I will love it.
I’ve been playing this on Steam since the first demo. If you like Garlic Survivors type games and are a fan of Diablo 2 aesthetics, this is an easy recommendation. H.o.T is not only one of the best Survivor type games currently on iOS, it’s also one of the best on Steam which has hundreds of more games in this sub-genre. The devs are constantly updating and adding new content and features so this’ll be a fun game to keep returning to for the foreseeable future to see what’s been recently added or updated.
