- Fixed a security vulnerability discovered in the game engine used by Garage.
I got Garage on PC a couple months ago with a translation tool patch and, while sort of janky, it helped me get through a bit of the first part of the game, just sort of meandering around and talking to characters. But not having a map to see where I was going (if I’m not mistaken, a physical paper map was included with one or more editions of the game when it released in the 90’s) really kept me from booting up the game for successive plays, just knowing wherever I end up, I won’t be able to reliably find my way back to save in time. That’s totally different with this Remaster. Having access to a map makes this extremely disorienting track layout suddenly make a lot more sense, and I’ve played 2 hours nonstop so far and have finally been able to properly play through to the 4th chapter before writing this. I’m really loving the character writing and smoother look of the entire game, and surprisingly don’t mind playing it with a touchscreen rather than a mouse (although a proper PC re-release would be welcome, and I think Sakuba could hit a monetary second/third wind and reach an even larger audience this way). The translation seems to be up to snuff as well. Admittedly I can’t really say much about the quality beyond the 2 hours/4 chapters I’ve played, but based on this limited experience, it’s a 5/5 for me. As the review before mine said, you should really give this truly original and uniquely immersive game a spin, I don’t think you’ll regret it.
This game is by no means for anyone. It’s slow it’s repetitive and at times you’ll feel lost. However despite this the games writing and story is amazing. I will say that one of the bad aspects of this game is the lack of online walkthroughs. But even so I found that this game is a lot more comprehensible then most old click and point games. The game is weird don’t get me wrong but despite the strange ambience and character design near the end I was able to empathize with the characters in a way that I’m not normally able to in fiction. Anyways spectacular game if you like surreal story games play it.
This game was once and still is a rare find, but now this has changed with the mobile release version. Coupled with the convenient phones of today, and the language accessibility/translating of many languages that have been added to this game, it is now safe to say Garage: A bad dream adventure will be kept on the shelves for many years to come, effectively saved from obscurity. The gameplay is great for such a relic of the 90’s and with the new quality of life additions, such as the new map, achievements, etc. this truly is peachy. *Sorry about grammar
I feel like a lot of point and click games can be frustrating with puzzles and logic that don’t make a lot of sense. This game has the perfect balance of difficulty, problem solving, and strategy. The repeated tasks of filling up, and setting bottle traps can seem tedious, but it gets fun running around the map and also taking care of business.
This game is a keeper! Wonderful graphics with a tad bizarre story but well done! It commanded your attention especially with the small details and achievements that needed to be gathered up! It certainly keeps you on your game! Well worth the money!
The bizarreness of this game is fascinating. The artwork is grim but oddly beautiful in a way. It’s clear this is from the golden age of strange unique and sometimes frustrating games and I’m glad it was rereleased on iOS for people to experience the nostalgia.
This is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I won't go into detail but I highly recommend giving this obscure classic a shot.
I really liked the game’s premise and graphics but I found the setting overly complicated and it had too many mechanics to keep track of. Would love a similar but simpler game!
