Very Good Game

There are some things that could be improved on this game but for the most part it is a great game. Ignore all the bad reviews. I have somehow managed to gain about 21 levels in one day. How I did it, easy: Don’t worry about buying things out of the store. Use universal bait so that you catch different kinds of fish. Occasionally use draw in the rod section to possibly get new perks. Cast many times. Don’t hold down on the reel, instead, tap it so that it stays in the middle of the meter. Do some duels so that you get the pack. Upgrade your fishing cards whenever you get the chance. Spend pearls to speed up the time to open packs whenever you feel you need to. Catch fish until you fill up the star thing and get packs from it. Upgrade rods whenever you have the chance. Participate in championships. I have not yet seen the rewards for this but I am possibly still in 1st place and might see tomorrow. There might be a couple more things to do but most, if not all of them are probably common sense. I know this seems like a lot, but like I said, most of it, if not all of it is probably common sense. If you do these things, you will be good in no time. I started at level 6 today.

Lags and crashes a lot

Was super fun at first, but then you end up spending money. Also I caught 4 different bosses that the game didn’t give me because it crashed every time I caught a boss. That was almost 2 months ago. Now I can’t even catch a boss even if I sit at the fishery and just keep casting 100s of times different lures, and just trying everything. 6+ people in my clan caught all 5 boss fishes at the Saginaw fishery the same day it opened, and it took me 3 days to actually catch a boss there and that was fishing for hours on Friday Saturday and Sunday. That was the first boss since the game basically stole the 4 other bosses. Used endless power ups just to be disappointed. I wish they made that more fair. Also It would be much better if the game didn’t crash so much, lag all the time, and just crash and collect your packs for you and you not even know what you’re getting. Also the power ups are almost slim to none getting unless you have a bunch of pearls (you have to buy them because they don’t give you very many for leveling up or rewards) and have everything upgraded , but it’s almost impossible to upgrade everything because you open a new fishery almost immediately after the last one you opened. Would be more fun if they gave out more power ups for rewards and the actual lures we need. It is fun at first, but you get addicted and some of us break down and buy some things.

Pay to play and FOMO mechanics taken to the extreme

I can respect the devs need to make money, and given it’s a free download with no ads there are going to be a good amount of pay to win mechanics. What I can’t respect is the insane amount they charge for the ability to compete in any weekly challenge. Want to catch the legendary fish of the week? That’ll be $10 just to get the right lures or rods for a one-off event. Want to upgrade your village enough to get rewards before the arbitrary timer runs out? Well it takes 36 hours to upgrade the lodge, which needs to be completed before you upgrade the two other buildings which need to be completed before you upgrade the building that ACTUALLY counts towards your progress, so you better spend some pearls to speed things up. And of course all of these require farming materials which take hours, which can also be sped up by spending pearls. Probably averages around 300 pearls EACH for the last 10 steps, which are on “special” offer for $10 for 350 in the shop. You get the idea. The worst part is that outside of the predatory microtransactions it’s actually a fun little game and I’d be happy to throw some money at it if the prices were at all reasonable, but given the direction they took the revenue model I could never support them or recommend this game to anyone that respects their own money or time.

Game was great for awhile UNTIL...

I fell in love with this game and it has been great until very recently. There are a lot of bugs in the events and players are getting impossible scores. I’ve reached out to support with no response. I was cheated out of prizes by players having more points than is possible in the events. Also there seems to be an algorithm that when you upgrade lures and spend money you instantly start catching much better fish and when you stop you will catch nothing for hundreds of casts while wasting all power ups. This algorithm is present to make sure that players keep spending money and keep leveling up so they’ll unlock new fisheries and have to buy the license with pearls. Look, I’m fine with that algorithm being in place (just like the one that makes rod weight bonuses not random). However, you need to fix the events or compensate players that have lost rewards because of it. That is just plain unfair and those players were cheated. The first time event scores were wacky and you guys admitted your mistake (it happened two events ago when you guys were trying to implement something new). But a couple hours later you wrote that everything was fine even though scores weren’t corrected. Big mistake! Own up to your mistakes and respond to the players who are seeking clarity. It is beyond frustrating for you guys to not be transparent and own up to things because 99% of players won’t catch the errors and you guys can just keep collecting money.

Great game some flaws though

I’ve been playing this game for over three months and I can say it has been my most played mobile game ever. I enjoy trying to get higher starred fish and competing in events. But all good games have flaws and this game has a few. To start the dueling system isn’t that fun as I could play ten matches and win only two of them. The game will continue to match you up with players that have god rods or just have played longer than you have which will always give them the advantage to win the match easily. Another big flaw in the game is the events during the week. What I mean is that sometimes when I would log on for the day I would be placed in an event that I could do little in because I can’t win duels for the event or I don’t own the lures needed for certain fish making it extremely hard to win any prizes during the very short events. If the events were longer than a day or two it might be possible for regular players to compete in these events. But overall I enjoy playing this game and would recommend fishing enthusiasts to try it out.

Waay too expensive

The price increases are outrageous. There is no down time to just fish what you have. New fish, mystery fish, boss fish, new fisheries seemingly every other month. All these things spell huge money. They have made challenges now so that you must spend substantial money just to compete. Seems rewards have decreased as well. Then there’s the bots. Guarantee if you are on your last duel to complete a streak, you will be paired with someone or something that will reel in 13 star fish like candy. Meaning you will have to start the streak all over. I don’t think I have ever completed a streak first time out. Even with maxed out fish and maxed out rods. Now they will only let you use double hooks if you have every pup. The game hooked me in. I spent a lot of money but up until recently, it was at least reasonable. The ridiculous pricing has actually had the reverse effect on me. I spend way less. And when i open the game for the first time in the day and see they want 35 dollars just to compete, I just close the app. Won’t be long before i give it up entirely.

Dropping stars as fast as game stability

Been playing for a little bit. Game started out fun, decent to progress without spending lots of money... until recently. Something has happened in one of the updates lowering the ability to catch larger fish more often enabling you to compete in challenges and events. I understand pay to play and that pretty much all games are solely that or have components built in to make money. And that’s not unacceptable. I’ve bought things because I enjoyed playing but over the last few updates it has changed completely. Without increasing level to open the next fishery, I have increased my rods and lures but all of a sudden I struggle to compete with those at or near my same level. The pay to play has been reinforced massively. It’s becoming one of the games where the bigger purchases will have to be made in order to compete in the challenges and events. Sad, they had a decent game going, even with some minor instability issues that have now turned in to you better have perfect WiFi or cell connection otherwise you’ll be “loading” frequently. Anywho, I would recommend to try but be prepared to drop some dollars if you want the full effect of the game and enjoy winning events to get minor gifts that you essentially paid for anyways.

Eh...

I play this all the time and enjoy it, but please stop making so many changes just to make yourself money. Also, I have so many freezes and have to restart my devices in order to even get back on?!?! None of my other apps stop working or need a restart. Also, what the crap is the deal with the Legendary Trophies?? Hope they are able to be used to help upgrade lures or something. Otherwise, seems really silly to just erase earned trophies for no reason. Especially when that brings higher level guys down into my league to face in duels, causing me to lose duels I shouldn’t even be matched up in. And on that point, why are duels even matched up by trophy count? Shouldn’t it just be by overall level? I hate facing players that have sandbagged for a day for the purpose of dropping trophies in order to face lesser level players... at no punishment. Should be more of a penalty or deterrent to those that choose this “strategy”. This really matters at clan pack time where the need to win is intensified. Why benefit those who are cheating the system and players playing at their legitimate level? Seems to me that you all need to get your ideas and changes lined up a little better to benefit better, and more fair, play.
