Football Frenzy is a wonderful anomaly from the early 90s. While most football games of the era were trying to be 'Madden,' Football Frenzy was trying to be an SNK arcade game—meaning it’s fast, flashy, and prioritized 'fun' over strict simulation. The sprites are massive and full of character, and the sound effects have that crunchy, high-energy arcade bite.
Playing it on mobile today, the game feels like a precursor to games like 'Mutant Football League.' It’s easy to pick up but actually has a decent play-calling system. The pace is much faster than a standard football game, making it perfect for mobile sessions. It’s not the deepest football sim you’ll ever play, but it is certainly one of the most charming. A great choice for sports fans who miss the coin-op era.
