Bitball Baseball is a love letter to the NES era of sports games. It understands that you don't need complex licensing or ultra-realistic physics to make a sports game fun; you just need good timing and charm. The pixel art is fantastic—the little 'swing' animations and the way the outfielders dive for balls are full of character. It feels like a modernized 'Baseball Stars' or 'R.B.I. Baseball'.
The controls are what really sold me. Tapping for a swing and swiping to aim your pitch is incredibly intuitive for a touch screen. There's enough depth to the pitching (curves, sliders, fastballs) to keep it from being a mindless tapper, and the season mode provides a good reason to keep coming back. It's the perfect sports game for someone who wants the stats and the season progression without the 40-minute commitment of a realistic simulation.
Classic 8-bit visuals and sound
Simple, responsive touch controls
Customizable teams and players
Fast-paced gameplay perfect for mobile
When pitching, swipe left or right after the ball is released to add 'break' to your curveball. Keep the batter guessing by changing your speed and location with every pitch.
Create your own team, customize their jerseys, and compete in a 16-game season. Winning the championship unlocks legendary players and classic stadiums.
The game features a 'Pass-and-Play' local multiplayer mode for 2 players.
I’m glad some of the bugs were patched in the last update. Things seem to improve slightly. But I’d like to mention a few bugs that have still been hindering greatly. For starters it seems now that I purchased premium new season schedules won’t load nor will the opposing teams’ name ever appear. And in the draft I have to keep resetting to get through. I’ll have to select round 1 then game freezes so I reset select round 1 and 2 and game freezes again and I reset etc. but it does seem that since buying premium the game got worse. Unclear if there’s a link. There’s also a problem where homeruns hit that barely get over the wall but still go out the park without a bounce will get called back to ground rule double. Really like to reiterate the deterioration of game saves once simmed through a couple games and starting the following season.
This game is fun. It is well-made and it is one of the few truly good baseball managing games in my opinion. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t many problems. For instance there’s an annoying feature that you cannot SIM games without spending money which is fair. I understand you have to make a living, but this seems very intrusive and it greatly affects the gameplay. Additionally, I think it would be pretty fun if you could potentially pitch the ball instead of just simming through that. Overall though very enjoyable and would 5 five stars if pitching was added.
This was once an exciting and addictive game despite all of the glitches it has. There have been several variations of this game. Unfortunately the flaws remain in all of the variations. Instead, the game gets modified to remove aspects of the game that made it fun and shifts them to the pay version. Until the game is fixed of its glitches, I will not be paying for its premium versions. The developer also periodically adds political statements to the game as well as insults between innings. Furthermore, unless you buy the glitched premium package, your roster will remain uncompetitive to the day the Kershaw bug freezes the screen and you are forced to start from scratch again. I recommend you avoid this version.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this game! Very simple controls allow you to focus on playing the game instead of trying to remember how to do something during the game. Unfortunately, I have come across some bugs… for some reason I can’t go beyond 3 or 4 seasons. Also, once in a while the ball from the opposing pitcher disappears halfway to the plate then suddenly the pitcher throws it again and you have no chance to hit it. Finally, despite paying for the full game, I can’t seem to figure out how to get the salary cap to be increased. Every time I try, I get denied saying to wait awhile.
Loving this game but the bugs are killing me. Even with the bar at 100% you can’t get the owner to increase the cap. If you sim the championship and win it says a different team won. Tracking doesn’t show that I’ve won any championships when I’ve won multiple. My players after a while have started to say -2 (and so on) years left on their contract. Please update. There’s so much good about this game and can be so much better.
Thank you for a very unique mobile gaming experience. This game is refreshing for a couple of reasons, but primarily because it’s not made by some ginormous corporate dev and instead from a small indie (solo?) developer. It’s obviously got bugs, but it’s also the first time this person has released a game so I think some slack is warranted here, and they are actually receptive to feedback which is unheard of with most mobile games. Thanks again! Keep up the great work :)
The frame of this game is really fun, but the bugs make it impossible to enjoy for too long. Sometimes the buttons just don’t work and you’ll have to abandon a save file. Sometimes it won’t let you choose not to resign players in FA. Sometimes you’ll draft your players and none of them will be on your roster. Sometimes you’ll have your guys safe but the game will force you to advance them or you’ll be stuck forever. This could be one of the best baseball GM games on the platform with more patching.
I’m a big retro bowl fan and have been looking for a baseball bit game for a while. This one jumped out immediately. It still has some work around the edges and room to grow, but I’m excited to play along as it does. Fun game play, easy interface (especially for such a complex sport), and good balance of depth and quickness. Excited to see the coming updates!
