Backgammon with Buddies is exactly what it sounds like: a polished, social-focused version of the classic board game. The app excels in its matchmaking and interface. The board is clear, the dice physics feel fair, and the 'buddy' system makes it very easy to jump into a game with friends or family across the world.
The inclusion of different board themes and customizable pieces adds a nice touch of personalization. While the core game is thousands of years old, the modern features like chat and tournament play bring it into the 21st century. It's a great example of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' focusing on a smooth user experience and a stable connection rather than unnecessary gimmicks.

Detailed statistics and history
A key strategy is building a 'prime'—a series of six consecutive points blocked by your pieces. This traps your opponent's checkers and prevents them from moving, regardless of what they roll on the dice.
Join daily tournaments to climb the global rankings. These matches use a point-based system rather than just single games, requiring more long-term strategy and careful use of the doubling cube.
Yes, the game uses a certified random number generator to ensure all dice rolls are completely fair and unbiased.
I really appreciate the accessibility functionality built into this game. Excellent job describing the board and checker location. The black checkers do not contrast well enough with the board for me to see them when located on the dark colored sections. Can you add a different colored checker or make the darker section of the board lighter colored so the pieces stand out more? The game tells you that you won in player vs player but does not tell you when you lose. I noticed that against the CPU it does make that clear. The voiceover announcing the opponents move gets cut off every time so you have to cycle through the entire board to determine what happened. This is a good game that is well designed and with a few tweaks would be a five star app.
Great game, and accessible to VoiceOver users. However, it would be more exciting with game sounds.
Great game, well worth the $3 to not see ads or pop-ups. Nothing fancy or complex. Just good old-fashioned backgammon the way it was intended! The two things I would like to see would be a scoreboard for games won/lost with the CPU and online players. Also would like to see an option to change the color of the board & pips/chips/nips, just to change things up. Other than that, I really enjoy the game (something to do while watching TV or waiting on something). Highly recommended!
This is a great adaptation of the classic game, and a great example of what can be done in terms of Voiceover support among other accessibility features to boot! I can't tell you how thrilling it was to be able to play this game after 20 or so years of having no chance, all while chatting with my opponent in the messages window!
Really impressed by this app. It may not matter to many, but the VoiceOver support is top notch and innovative. The game-play is smooth and intuitive. The only improvement I would love is if they would add some AI's to practice against. Other than that, well done!
My request is a doubling cube and match play.
I can’t believe they even charge for this app. Awful to navigate and not user friendly at all. Tried for a while with it and then just deleted it. Makes you reluctant to purchase other apps. Wish I could get a refund.
I need more information. Is there a timer?
