A great survival horror game that plays great on iOS
Sat Aug 24 2024 Lenny Ferguson

I have been a fan of this game since it’s initial release around 2014, and have replayed it almost every year (around Halloween of course). I’ve played it across multiple platforms, on Xbox/PS4, PC and even the Switch (I wanted to play it while on vacation). It’s hard to compete with the PC version but this port on iOS is phenomenal if you have reasonably new iPhone or iPad and a backbone controller, or just connect a console controller. Obviously using touch screen controls is not ideal, but I don’t think you should expect to go into a game released on consoles ported to iOS to have that be the preferred option. The games atmosphere and visuals are kept entirely intact, and the game runs perfectly fine and looks amazing on my M1 iPad Air as well as my iPhone (that is currently the latest model). I can’t speak to how it runs on older devices however, but considering how the Nintendo Switch is able to run a reasonable looking port of it, I would expect it might run just fine on the performance mode on some older iOS devices if you change the Video settings appropriately.

a few suggestions

The game itself is REALLY good, the graphics surprisingly don’t affect anything inside the game and the mechanics are very unique from what I’ve seen in other games. But one of the few things I wanted to mention was that some parts of the game (objectives/tasks) were unclear to me at times and so I got lost multiple times; and I’m talking about the times where I didn’t have my scanner. If you do plan on updating the game, I suggest adding a sandbox game mode where you could make your own maps with specific walls and all that other stuff, also being able to add enemies like the aliens or androids. And back to the topic where it was hard to find your objective— you could add an arrow pointer that leads you where to go if the game detects that you haven’t been doing the task for “5-10” minutes. Thank you for not only adding this to mobile but for creating the game itself.

Technical marvel

“Wow” is an appropriate description of an amazing port of an already amazing game. It’s insane to think nowadays that you can get this type of gaming experience natively on a tablet that’s razor thin and weighs literally a pound. Yes, the PS4 and Xbox One are nearly 9 years old pieces of hardware, but compared to how the game looks and runs on the M1 iPad Pro, it makes the duo look like ancient technology. Aside from the technical aspects, Alien: Isolation is one of the greatest horror experiences in gaming. That fact that you can take it anywhere on a wide range of mobile devices now makes it that much better. Slap a couple of wireless earbuds in, grab a game pad of your choice, and it’s oh so easy to immerse yourself in the sheer terror of being hunted by the Xenomorph. TLDR; Excellent port technically of an amazing game. If you’re a fan of the series or love horror experiences, absolutely worth the purchase.

A Horror Masterpiece

A decade ago, we were arguably at the peak of mobile gaming. Infinity blade was in full swing, dead space had just received a stellar iOS port, and the sky was the limit. But at some point, developers decided that cash was king, and started favoring mindless cash grabs over quality, lovingly crafted games. Alien isolation is a return to form, a reminder that you can have a fully realized and immersive game at the tip of your fingers. I cannot recommend this game highly enough for fans of horror, science fiction, or action games. The visuals are stunning, the controls are intuitive and the story is immersive. There were no corners cut in the making of this game. This is the real deal, and I hope this game receives enough support to remind developers what mobile gaming is truly capable of.

Spectacular!

Feral Interactive are gods amount men. Everything they touch is of the highest quality. The Total War games series, Company of Heroes, Xcom 2, Tropico, Grid and now Alien Isolation. Just beautifully done. The graphics are awesome and it runs very smoothly. The sound is fantastic and very atmospheric with music from the Alien movie plus great sound effects. It might be a port but it is of the highest quality. I’m playing on an iPad Pro (2017) with 512gb and everything installed. Even though I have an iPad controller to use I decided to try the touch controls. It just works great and I don’t know if I’ll even need my controller. I’ve bought this game on the PS4, PC, The Switch and now iOS. This just might be my favorite. Bravo Feral Interactive. Alien Isolation is fantastic and an absolute bargain too. 10/10

WOW

This has been a beloved game for me on Xbox for many years. Have replayed multiple times and it never gets old. When I recently just happened to discover this on the App Store on my iPad I was both surprised and a bit skeptical. I didn’t think it would adapt well for mobile, figuring the gameplay, controls or graphics just wouldn’t hold well. How wrong I was though… The controls are easy to master, the gameplay is still great, the graphics are amazing and just everything about this mobile version is definitely up to par. Highly recommend for any horror game fans and definitely for anyone who loved the game on console, as this is a brand new experience in and of itself. All I can say is Wow, this is freaking awesome!

I’m absolutely floored.

This game is undoubtedly a masterpiece in the horror game genre and, just like the Nintendo Switch with Tegra X1, I’m even more surprised that this technical achievement of a port looks as well as run amazingly well on my iPad Mini 6 with A15 chip. 60FPS and roughly 1080p or higher is insane. There are still some framerate hiccups here and there when the game loads its assets but weirdly enough, when the lag starts happening and then you pause/unpause the game, the framerate restabilizes itself…most of the time. Other than that, I applaud the incredible wizards who designed and ported this game. It truly deserves a lot more sales support, recommendations and a sequel…maybe revive the Alien: Blackout game as a DLC and rework it in first person as the true ending of this marvelous game’s story.

Feral Knows Their Stuff!

I wasn’t really interested when I first saw the price point and almost clicked away when I noticed right before this was Feral at the Helm! After seeing what they did with Grid for mobile, I have become a huge fan of their work! So after seeing their name on this I went to Steam to check out reviews for the game and saw that the reviews were “Overwhelming Positive” so I decided to click that buy button! Well after about an hour or so I’ve jumped in here to say… WOW! What an incredible experience this is… especially on mobile with a good pair of headphones! I’m blown away this is on my iP 20se! This is one of the most amazing and terrifying gaming experiences I have ever had! The graphics are tasty to the eyes, the sounds fill your ears with all the ambience of a well produced movie, and the gameplay/story really immerses you into its world where you forget yours! What an INCREDIBLE piece of Digital Artwork this is! Feral…Keep porting and I’ll keep buying! P.S. Also love the fact you can rearrange the hud, resize buttons, and reduce their visibility to see more of the game! That’s some great forward thinking right there! Thank you! 5 Stars!
