A Memoir Blue is a stunning 'interactive poem' that trades high scores for high emotions. Developed by Cloisters Interactive, it tells a wordless story about the relationship between a superstar athlete and her mother, utilizing a gorgeous blend of 3D environments and hand-drawn 2D animation.
The gameplay is light, focusing on environmental puzzles and tactile interactions that serve as metaphors for memory. You might find yourself scrubbing a window to reveal a childhood home or turning a radio dial to tune into a forgotten feeling. It’s short—completable in about an hour—but its impact lingers long after the credits roll. It is a poignant, artistic achievement that demonstrates the power of games as a storytelling medium.
Stunning hand-drawn and 3D art style
Emotional, wordless narrative
Tactile puzzle mechanics
Atmospheric soundtrack
Interact with the environment to trigger transitions between the present and the past. Drag, tap, and slide objects to solve simple puzzles that represent Miriam's emotional hurdles.
There is no dialogue. Pay close attention to the 2D animated sequences which represent memories; they provide the context for the 3D 'present day' world Miriam is navigating.
The game is a concise narrative experience that typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.
This is a beautifully crafted experience and sadly, the posted description, as evidenced by several other reviews, really needed to clarify this point so that disappointment might have been avoided for buyers who expected to get a puzzle game. ******* There’s an interesting review by a Russian player that I used Apple’s native photo app to translate so (English-speaking-only) people reading the reviews before deciding whether to buy the app could take it into account too… anyway, here’s the translation: “ Music is life! -by: 23июня — A game that will take forty minutes of your time and make you look at your relationship with your parents from a slightly different angle. Understand that they live for you, that even when they are not around, they worry and think about you. Thank you very much to the heroine, for this little adventure, which made me rethink some things.”
A beautifully illustrated story, but I thought I was getting something of a puzzle game as well. Aside from moving a few things around on the screen to advance the story, there was no puzzle to it at all. Kind of disappointing. Am I missing something?? Kinda feel like I just wasted a couple bucks.
it has no sound and no direction.
First, I had no sound at all. Went through settings and that didn’t help. Second, there is no clear way to “play”. It’s just clicking randomly on things. Don’t waste your time.
I was so disappointed when I got to the end, it felt like there was no point to it🤦♀️. My few dollars were wasted….
This game should not be running bad on the newest iPhone. Why is there even stutter?
Very unique and beautiful game.
Very laggy and unclear how to play. Had to click around without any prompting and the story was very slow
